Phil runs one of the finest football news websites and fan forums around. TWTD is always up for awards. We’re SO lucky to have it, and clearly all love being here.

Give the guy a break. Put his needs, and the pleasure others have using this site (FOR FREE), ahead of your need to win your internet wars.

Take a rest. Think before you post. Be nice.

… and repay a little enjoyment - allow Phil to enjoy a bloomin’ Sunday night in peace!

On this point, the following article dropped in my email inbox this week. I’d forgotten I’d signed up and the writer won’t appeal to everyone, but it’s quite an amusing take on the futility of arguing on the internet:

Well said. It's clear that Phil and his admin team are reaching the end of their tethers.

It costs nothing to be kind, and think whether you are contributing to a topic that could end up getting petty or toxic.

I mean, when does Phil actually get a break? Seriously? He posts news items daily, attends press conferences and matches, posts match reports, and then has to deal with 'adults' who can't seem to be nice to each other or know when to walk away from a discussion.

Give the man a break!

I think Phil is within his rights to shut the board down for 48 hours as a form of "punishment" for want for a better word.

I still think I quite clearly should be moderating on an undercover basis.

Just secretly editing posts to take away such confrontational commenting. Tut tut

I messaged Phil very much the same.

‘There were some useful comments in that thread, from both sides, there was no abuse, just some truths, from both sides and things that needed to be said’

Ah well.

Only the internet innit. All be forgotten tomorrow. Well, by some.

In the coming days we can argue about the EFLs decision about the abandoned game from yesterday

Turning off up/down votes would be an idea too.

The most passive aggressive form of internetting.

Not as a “punishment”, but to give himself a break, I agree. Sometime like now, between games. I’m sure it’s technically possible.

You did however down arrow one of my replies the other day and then didn't say why which would have been good to see.

I think up and down arrows are fine. I do think tho if you take the time to do them at least post why really.

Just my opinion but if you care about up or down votes on the internet, you’re a bit of a weapon.

And don’t get me wrong I was that guy. Albeit over ten years ago and I was barely out of nappies. Now at the big old 27, I’ve a life in the real world and a down arrow from some random geezer on the internet doesn’t really fit into my list of stresses.

But hey that’s just me anyway

As I said, punishment may not be the right word. Shut it down to focus minds and make people ap[reciate it a bit more. And yes, give himself a couple of days peace as an added bonus.

Spot on post and to be honest I’m surprised by the amount of hostility that crops up on here half the time.

It’s an Ipswich Town forum, very niche, and we all support the same club which is our common interest. But the amount of grudges I see from posters that seem to stem from the politics debates is mind blowing.

I prefer not to get involved in it other than to upvote the ones I really agree with and I’m glad I don’t bother. If someone wants to take on my football opinions and thinks they’re bollox then I’m glad, we all enjoy reasonable debate. But the stuff that goes on re politics, too far sometimes.

To be fair surely threads like that give more hits, it even tempted someone back to post!

Three threads done today, could’ve been a lot of ad revenue with those!!

My point exactly. Trouble is, there’s a few weapons firing the trolling around, spoiling it for the rest of us. Hopefully they’d be less triggered to retaliate without a -3 under their post.

Up or down arrows are a way of saying you agree or disagree with a particular post or part of it without feeling the need to comment or get bogged down in pages of TWTD table tennis . It shouldn't come with an explanation.

It becomes passive aggressive when it's used purely based on the poster rather than the post.
