I don’t think the ref had a scoobie what was going on by the point.

| Scenes in the Afcon final on 21:33 - Jan 18 by ITFCson | I think we can all agree that there is/was likely a level of corruption with disallowed goal and then the pen given, corruption in African football is rife. If so then the players likely not in on it and Morocco would want to win on merit rather than corruption. |
Corruption is not limited to African football. Remember South Korea vs Italy in 2002 . . .

| Scenes in the Afcon final on 21:23 - Jan 18 by ITFCson | Penalty was missed on purpose I think. The way Mane suddenly ran down the tunnel then they all appeared, I think players agreed it was looking suspect to missing would be fairest. If the game was fixed it likely was likely due to politics and not the actual players. |
Man you are naive if you think Diaz pretended to miss. People get killed in Africa for this sort of thing.

It looks like he did to be. Watch Senegal after. They don't react to the save. Even Mendy doesn't celebrate very hard.

| Scenes in the Afcon final on 21:28 - Jan 18 by SitfcB | Hmm I’m not so sure. If you miss a penalty on purpose surely you just put it wide? Plus he was distraught afterwards, a chance to win the tournament on home soil, doubt they’d agree to miss on purpose surely. |
Exactly, there was no reason for Morocco to agree to miss it, I can't imagine a team agreeing to miss in an international tournament final just because a decision in their favour seemed a bit soft. I am surprised more hasn't been said about the decision to go off the pitch by Senegal, it probably shouldn't have been a penalty, but I think when they left the pitch that should have just been it, match forfeited. For Diaz to have to wait 20 minutes to take the penalty in that situation was wrong,

Again, he's literally putting a bounty on his head. Naivety in the extreme to suggest he missed it because of 'sportsmanship' this isn't England this is a dangerous and lawless country....

I hope it was and I hope, if it was, they clearly communicate that was the case. I think, however, it was just a shocker of a pen. No more or less than that. A great goal to win it but unprofessional from Senegal to walk off.

Unprofessional but a contributory factor to them winning the tournament.

Questionable statement there, I didn't believe Morocco was known as a particularly dangerous place, and from a quick search their homicide and violent crime rate is very similar to the UK (homicide being 1.4 per 100,000 population in Morocco, compared to 1.2 in the UK). [Post edited 18 Jan 22:12]

Clear from my perspective that it was an attempted panenka dink which the goalkeeper read, feinting to dive right but staying on his feet. Would make little sense for Diaz to kiss the ball and psych himself up in the event he didn't intend to score. [Post edited 18 Jan 22:18]
