Bringing in a new extreme rule into football 23:16 - Jan 18 with 2196 viewsFrimleyBlue

If you had the opportunity for 1 season. What extreme rule would you bring into football for one season just to see what effect it would have.

Mine. A 0-0 draw results in both sides losing a point - Imagine the carnage in the final 5 minutes.

Completing a roll on the ground of 360 degrees after contact automatically gives the free-kick the other way. 720 degrees is a bookable offence. More than that, and the offender not only gets a red, but has to roll all the way off the pitch.

Abolish throw ins and instead have free kicks from where the ball went out. Only goalkeepers should be using their hands.

5 pts for a win.
1 extra point for every goal scored over 4.

Rather than deducting a point for a 0-0 draw, I would propose the following rule:

If a game ends in a draw, a bonus point is awarded to the team with the most shots on target and if that is equal, the team who has committed the least fouls resulting in a free-kick or penalty.

I'd make that tactical foul on the halfway line a 10 minute sin bin offence or a red based on scoreline & how long left.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

When I was a kid in inter school games if it was a draw at full time the team that had been awarded the most corners was considered the winner.

Now a more sensible suggestion. Four lines men instead of two. For a throw in the linesman places the ball at the place the throw in should be taken. Taken from anywhere else it is a foul throw.

Teams that earn throw-ins should be allowed to give the throw-in to the opposition if they think they are more likely to keep possession that way.

At corners, say that both teams must have some (2 maybe?) players in the other half the pitch when the corner is taken.

Any game ending in a draw should be decided by penalties. Not just for one season, but every season.
Same in cricket. If a draw after 5 days of playing, every player has a bowl at stumps. Sudden death from the start of bowl off.

Also, the defending team should use a wall ten yards out from the corner quadrant...complete with draught excluder.

Wouldn't that need that opponents had to stand a set distance back otherwise it would be very easy to block a ball that started off at ground level?

Throw-ins - and you only get 8 seconds to take it. And we start applying the rules of a throw-in again, or abolish them and allow a throw-in to be taken anyway you like.

Not bad. I'd like to see a (non footballing) Celeb of choice bought on as as sub, max of 5. We start with Ed of course, but doesn't have to be Town related. So Tom Hardy to bolster midfield, Stephen merchant for added height at set pieces, Harry Hill, Goal! Becky Jago, just because. And she's a Blue!

Matches (at least in the first two divisions) are reviewed once they are over and any dodgy red and yellow cards overturned, and other ones dished out where the ref missed them. Especially for diving.

And one could be a Swedish woman who is on the Autistic Spectrum, and the other a gruff, world-weary, Danish male cop, and they have to work together to solve fouls committed on the halfway line, and it shouldn't work, but after some teething trouble they find a way to maximise each other's strengths and compensate for each other's weaknesses?

Or maybe Paul and Barry Chuckle could officiate under these rules, and much hilarity could ensure every time the ball crossed the halfway line and one transferred authority to the other?
