Sure but this season is the weakest league in ages. Those coming down will have far more years of prem infrastructure and money.
The fact that the other parachute teams this year are in such a mess makes our inability to take advantage even worse. | |

If I was Ashton I’d be talking to Kieran about his thoughts on the makeup of the squad. If he thought we need a striker, I’d be discussing it with him and the recruitment team and asking them to justify their selection(s). Then I’d start contacting clubs/agents. I wouldn’t be picking names myself.

Wouldn't be as useful against a low block though. Hirst has tended to look very good too with space behind to work the channels. | |

Ehhhh. Im not saying any of the deals are easy - but we have had months to prepare for this - we haven't replaced Delap. Though of course if McKenna could get a tune out of Akpom then that would be a start. We are in a position now that makes it look very likely that we will not make the top 2. That in itself, with the resources we have had, doesn't reflect great on McKenna and Ashton. | | | |

Jebbison completely missed the one chance he had, same as Hirst.
So are we after a striker who scores or one who runs around a lot?

He's got some good potential but absolutely not. You don't buy players off the back of one decent game. He's only got 19 career goals and 6 in the champ off 55 starts. Even with his potential he's not what you buy to get you over the line now with 16-17 games to go.
In terms of realistic targets
Surridge - great age, goal confident, fits the system pretty much perfectly. Good option
Piroe- arguably more of a 10 but can play 9. Scored goals in the champ consistently. Will cost a lot!
Armstrong- proven scorer. Smaller/fox in the box/running off the last man type. For me not quite the right profile but would score goals. Good option but maybe more off the bench.
Ivanovich. Fits the system perfectly like Surridge. Has scored in the champ but dropped his goal form a little this season. Young and will only get better. Would be expensive.
For me Surridge or Ivanovic would slot in best. | |

…we stepped away from looking for a striker who “fits our system” personally.
But I can’t really see KM ever changing the style, he just lives maintaining the same formation and making “like for like” subs, even when it plainly isn’t working.
If he did then I’d be happy to take someone like Adam Armstrong.
KM could still stick with whoever is his preferred donkey out of the two we’ve got for the first hour and then bring on something different (someone who will hit the target from 12 yards out) for the last half hour.
Basically I’d take any striker that can regularly make the opposition keeper earn his money. |  |

Well the moaners have forgotten that Hirst proved himself in our promotion season. Scored 7 from 29. (6 from 25 this season, so on a par) Created for the other 3 front players with 6 assists, (only one this season, but it could be argued our style has changed).
However, apparently now the way we deal with players in poor form is to boo them and clamour for them to be replaced with a permanent signing. God forbid that incoming player should only score 4 or 5 between now and the end of the season.
A loan will do. Re-assess in the summer. And if no one is available, we stick with Hirst and for a change, fking support him. | |
