| The Emperor’s New Clothes 22:11 - Feb 13 with 4041 views | FollowEnglandAway | Has McKenna finally been exposed? Not finally really! Boring, turgid, dull! Another loss, another McKenna borefest! Is this another fan flouncing? Maybe, but football should be entertaining but there is no enjoyment in watching ITFC at the moment. | |

He's no fool and when he wanted to try out as a Manager he picked a club under performing in the third division with new owners and relative massive resources compared to the competition. Even then he could only come second to Plymouth. To be fair he did well the next season but if Leeds who beat us twice hadn't kept falling apart, we'd not have gone up. As for last season 1 4 14 at home says it all. |
Barking mad - we got 98 points in league 1 and 96 in the championship, I doubt those points would ever fail to get you promoted. Nothing to do with Leeds falling apart. Quite a number of our premier league team were playing in league 1 two seasons before.

| The Emperor’s New Clothes on 23:32 - Feb 13 by FollowEnglandAway | I’ve been watching since before you were born and I have never been so bored watching football as this team. It might be modern football but fck me its crap to watch and IF we get promoted we will be like the lambs to the slaughter! |
But the performances are no different to 2 seasons ago, did you moan then. Or are you a simple person who is just entertained on the final score, ie we win irrelevant of performance and you're entertained? Now I'm not saying thats wrong, as a huge percentage of football fans really couldn't give a f**k about performances they're only interested in the result. Also does it matter if we are lambs to the slaughter if we play entertaining football?

Even that basketcase of a club from Sheffield got 96 points when we got 98 and Plymouth got 103. That really was a poor strength league and he still couldn't win it
| Never forget that in April 2021, for ITFC, the Game Changed. |

The problem is we're looking back on 23/24 as an entirety. If we focus at this point of the season, we were having similar issues as we are now. On this day two years ago, we beat Millwall 4-0 to start a win of 11 wins out of 16. Before then, from mid December to 13th February, we'd won one from nine.

Basket case now, very strong team in league 1 then if you remember, or maybe not from your perch at carrot road. Plymouth got the third best point total of all time in league 1, we got the 7th.

As tough as it may be to hear for some, I can accept the argument that 2022/22 was an acceptable season, but nothing out of ordinary. If Plymouth can make 101, then promotion is, at most, no more than expected. 2023/24 was a stupendous over achievement. Edit: 24, not 34! [Post edited 14 Feb 17:55]

22/23, overall was good but not incredible as you say, but what made it stand out was that form from January onwards. We were a winning machine, and scoring a mad amount of goals into the bargain.

Exactly. And we had a big target on our heads that Plymouth didn't have. Points are obviously the most important thing but in pretty much every metric and data point we were the dominant team in the division. I remember reading some analysis that 'the data' backed up suggestion we were the best team that season ever for L1. Obviously 98 points is great but wasnt still representative of performances. That can happen when teams just set up to keep you out etc. Plymouth completely outperformed xg and expected points from matches (which is too their credit). On paper Wed should have finished above Plymouth. Obviously in the champ we did somewhat of a Plymouth but actually I think are attacking numbers were still good. Defensively we were worse than season then we are now but we were so efficient and cohesive going forward. Far from the Emperers New Clothes, the reality is McKenna should get credit for what he is doing this season. Building a new team is tough. We are a much better watch now then the start of the season. We will keep improving. Cov away and Derby were both. Class performances

Think our pre season was also hugely disrupted, if we don’t get up, Kmac is still here, and there isn’t another huge turnover of players we would comfortably get promotion
