Possibly the single biggest stroke of genius at the club ever. Though I can't speak for pre 1963. I remember Arnold Muhren saying to the then Bobby Robson, after playing his first game, if you want to get the best out of me, I can't stand around in midfield watching the ball keep sailing over my head! Being a very wise manager BR listened, also went back to Twente Enschede and got AM's central midfield partner in crime almost straight away. The rest is history! God knows what those two would cost today. We might not be short of money these days, but I don't think we'd be in the bidding!

Disagree I'd rather be 2 points behind with 2 games in hand, the potential to be 4 points ahead winning both games (far from an impossible task) or even and 1 point ahead even with accounting for losing one of those games. [Post edited 15 Feb 12:50]
