| We actually look like a top two side today 17:27 - Feb 28 with 3109 views | Mullet | Yet we are still 4th! I know Swansea are bad, but it shows what happens teams play against us and not shut up shop. Mehmeti had a field day in all that space. Lots of today to enjoy I thought without too much stress thanks to the early goal. Dan Neil looks like the secret sauce as he grows into that role and has the quality to keep us ticking over too. People focusing on others dropping points, but we are in a place where all we can do is win our games. If it means we aren't reliant on beating Boro at home then all well and good I think. | |

| We actually look like a top two side today on 17:49 - Feb 28 by pointofblue | I'd say it was a play off hunting performance rather than top two. We've definitely played better this year. Sloppy in possession at times, particularly passing, and gave them a lot of room to play - but maybe we knew they didn't carry a massive threat so could allow it. We did what we needed to do; that's the most important thing. Slightly off topic, but I guess we're waiting on rearranging the Portsmouth game to see if Southampton and Norwich both get through the quarter finals of the FA Cup? If they do, neither us or Pompey will have an Easter Friday game so it'll slot in there. |
A "play-off hunting performance" .. to win 3-0 against a mid-table team who hardly had a shot on target and whose keeper made at least two very good saves. Have you looked at where we are in the table? Interestingly, their fans sung "you're nothing special we'll see you next year." I would agree that we were nothing special if by that you mean we didn't seem like we got into top gear at all. And yet, with that level of performance, we comfortably beat a mid-table side (on mid-table form) without really breaking into a sweat. That, to me, is the mark of a promotion-hunting side. I would add that Swansea left Vipotnik on the bench until the final 30 minutes (and looked better when he came on). I think they saw today as a probable defeat and rested Vipotnik to prioritise for their mid-week match instead.

Started on Tuesday (this week) instead of yesterday then! Or perhaps he had a knock. Or he just didn't play well and was dropped.

| We actually look like a top two side today on 19:38 - Feb 28 by MrPotatoHead | He doesn’t say it about every opponent and doesn’t have a habit of lying in press conferences. I’m pretty confident he means it. They looked it today too, they’re certainly not a bad team. |
I thought Swansea looked ok. By and large a very controlled performance by us. One of the better performances this season and entertaining too. We have a lot of very good players for this level and you never know, the bringing in of Mehmeti and Neil might just be what we needed. They’re still settling, yet I thought both were excellent. Nice to see Azon scoring with a good finish and GH getting his second goal in a week. Hopefully some of the haters will get off his back, but I’m not holding my breath on that. At least he got a bit of a cheer when he was warming up. No, it wasn’t perfect. Performances of any team very rarely are, apart from in the distortion of memory. However, I think there was a lot to like. There’s a good team coming together here.

I nearly put we didn't need to leave second gear, because that was the feeling around the game. We did seem quite open and at times, and a better team may have punished us. But perhaps we would have lifted our game further if required. It was a notch down on the Coventry games for me, and not quite as controlled as Watford or Derby away. Vipotnik's form has been reasonable of late (I looked it up as I wondered why they'd left him on the bench). I imagine it was due to fitness.
