McAteer transfer fee - Leicester financial struggles 21:15 - Mar 2 with 2306 viewsleftback

Been watching some interesting Tik toks with that fella who took over Sunderland, he extremely clued up on the financial going’s on at Leicester , they’re in a complete mess but it was mentioned that they have already borrowed from bank the future instalments from the transfers of James Justin , Tom Cannon and Kasey McAteer, which on the he said they were transferred for a combined £20 million. Justin was 8mill, and Cannon was similar meaning McAteer fee must have been much less than the reported 12mill

Massive failure by the club to not state that at the time. 12m tag automatically puts unwarranted pressure on the player.

No one is denying that McAteer hasn't had a tough time but a lot of people have got doubly upset by the reported £12 million

They got the money up front from Macquarie but they showed 2 further instalments of £4m, so presuming the initial fee was the same it is the £12m

David Ornstein, who is about as legit as you can get, did report it, 12M guaranteed over installments.

That is the amount of money that is going to change hands for him between the clubs so technically he is a 12M player. I don't think the club ever report fees in in an statement or anything.

Broken down in detail by Leicester's EADT here:

Seems more likely to me that the ITFC official* has told a white lie, received one or heard a Chinese whisper, rather than Ornstein and local press being wrong. Wouldn't surprise if the former's seen the contract; he spoke with authority on previous deals involving McAteer too.

Am I missing something? The fee was reported as £12 million and that confirms it was £12 million.

Don't think so. Rumours have swirled since Christmas maybe that we paid significantly less, people reportedly ITK, but reliable evidence all points to.the contrary imo.

Where's it mention add-ons? Wouldn't surprise me if there were but there's no mention in the article, just two further instalments of £4 million, which is a standard way of paying fees.

I've read that as being even more than 12 mil!

£5.7m Cannon, £5m Justin, £8m McAteer, re instalments of £18.7m.

Think the OP has forgotten to account for initial payments (£2.3m, £2.5m, £4m) when deducing that the fee must be less. I've read of £2m add-ons elsewhere, perhaps Ornstein's earliest reporting, but didn't see mention of it in that link.

If Town had paid significantly less than the reported fee, then a figure nearer the correct one would have emerged.

Ah when I mooted "the former" seeing the contract earlier I meant Ornstein, not the unnamed ITFC contact(s) who several posters have referenced on this forum over recent months. My first post was in support of Joe's.

If memory serves when Ornstein broke the news he didn't even couch the figure in second-hand terms like "reportedly" or "believed to be". He simply stated what the sum was and the bank loans since corroborate it: £12m. If anyone needs it to be less in order to support McAteer properly though then I hope they believe it is much less.

So Leicester borrow their incoming transfer fees to get then uo front. Won't that catch up with them at some point? If I eat all my battenberg now, I will have no battenberg available to me later.......

anything over £2m is too much for him based on what we've seen so far.

It doesn't mention 'add-ons' as such but making an assumption as the caption under his image says:

'Kasey McAteer was sold by Leicester City to Ipswich Town for £14m this summer'

Then the article mentions the 3x 4m as the 'base fee'

Hadn't spotted the caption. I would guess that's an error.
