| Is the Umbro deal up this summer? 10:20 - Mar 3 with 1637 views | Zx1988 | The replica shirts seem to be having their prices slashed hard and early this year (down to £20/£29 for kids/adults shirts from this morning). If the deal's up at the end of the season, I'd guess that this might be pointing towards stock clearance in anticipation of a new supplier for 26/27? | |

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the retro Umbro stuff, as that's not been reduced at all. Unless that sits outside of what would be covered by a standard kit deal, although that feels very unlikely.

Adidas image is a lot better than Umbro’s - but Adidas, when they manufactured our kits were awful. I think the only Umbro kit worse than the entirety of Adidas recents efforts is the current red away kit, which is appalling.

I'd quite like to see us in Hummel kits, always liked the look of them.

I'd like that, but I don't think I can see it - if it follows the same process as a lot of other things at the club in recent years, the contract will go to whoever will facilitate the greatest profit margins on kit. Was Ashton at Bristol during the time when they had their kits made by 'Bristol Sport'? I can quite easily see us going in-house if it proves to be the most profitable option.

The umbro deal was due to end this season, so any new deal with CaStore/umbro likely means Castore not umbro on kits Fwiw all umbro kits Bournemouth, Brentford, West Ham, Huddersfield are all heavily discounted in sales at the moment as well.

Yeah, Umbro have done a good job over the last few seasons. Some lovely abfld thoughtful kits. Agree about this season's away kit though - horrible. 22/23 home probably the pick of them.

Good point. Hope it's not Castore for us next season.

They’re keeping both brands, and deciding which brand works best for which team / sport. So the England rugby team moved from Umbro to Castore but Rangers moved the other way. More info here: https://www.sportbusiness.com/

This season was essentially a Castore job just with an Umbro badge on. It's definitely their fit. Shame the Umbro license went to them as we've had some great kits over the last few years.

Can't disagree more, i think all of our Umbro kits have been very poor, both in design and in quality. It's been such a downgrade from Adidas and i hope we are returning to them.

The Adidas kits were template though and not great. I liked 14/15 and also 20/21 (the Carers Trust one with the old badge for 40 years since Uefa Cup). But otherwise not fantastic. Umbro did a good job, especially on 22/23. [Post edited 3 Mar 17:27]

Yeah, the quality has been naff. It's a bit of a joke when you have to do your own secondary QC when buying a shirt from the club shop, rather than trusting that the stitching will all be decent.

Facilitates the most profit...by making kits that people actually want to buy you mean.

Both are valid considerations, and that's the balance that Ashton has to strike. Your baseline of fans who'll buy the kit regardless will always be there, whether it's a timeless Adidas classic, or a blue plastic bag with a Town badge drawn on in Sharpie. It feels like a case of starting from there, with the highest profit-margin supplier, and making a decision based on how it's likely to sit with the more 'discerning' fan. Castore, for example. Is that brand sufficiently 'tainted' following the high-profile quality issues of recent years, that the club wouldn't sign a deal with them on the basis that they fear they'd lose a significant chunk of additional sales?

Logged in to jokingly make this comment but you beat me to it! You know how the kit promos always has a slogan something like 'this kit is inspired by the 2000 promotion shirt'....do you think we will ever see another shirt inspired by the punch swoosh kit. Always liked the shorts of that kit and still just about squeeze into them when I'm lounging in the garden in the summer
| Is the Umbro deal up this summer? on 19:36 - Mar 3 with 34 views | tractorshark | No Ed Sheeran logo on the shirt probably accounts for a drop in sales. No Premier League also has a bearing as well. And I get the impression the red shirt wasn’t particularly well received. | | | |
