Starmer's comments this morning somewhat encouraging, in tone at least, too. Perhaps we're actually going to see a European alliance of sorts as a sensible response to this dangerous era.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!
Spain has been able to shelter behind the EU so far to avoid reprocussions. If the UK (for example) were to do that, the country would be far more exposed to tariff/financial retaliation. I think it was Germany that recently had to point out to Trump that the EU negotiates as a bloc.

Spain has hidden for years behind others defending them and will continue to do so. Others including the U.K. have too, but at least some are now aware of the threat (Baltic states, Scandinavia, Poland. Even Germany).
There will be serious repercussions from the US towards the U.K. and no reduction in threat from Iran or others. The irony is that even if there was a desire to assist the US in this ridiculous ill thought out action, there’s no capability whatsoever to do so. The bit that bothers me is there appears to be no desire to start looking after ourselves.
This was amply demonstrated over the comical farce of sending a single ageing, paint peeling destroyer to the Mediterranean. And as it goes, it’s had to borrow a Frigate off Germany to fulfil its NATO commitment. It’s pathetic.
The U.K. policy is very much following Spain now with ongoing, relentless defence cuts. I guess the scrapyards will do well until there’s nothing left.
That’s clearly the policy. Be honest straight about it Sir Kier. Defending the people of this country just isn’t a priority. Maybe that nice Me Putin and the smiling leader of China will leave us alone. We can hope I suppose.
