Love Town, Hate Racism protest - Mon 1pm on 19:33 - Mar 30 by thebeat

Gimp level cringe this. Really what the players need before a massive game.

Surely the point of doing something before the game and not during is so it doesn't distract from what McKenna and the players do? It's isolating any dissent from the team.

Behind the players in the ground and people making clear their grievances outside is far more productive, no?

Think it's a big assumption that our squad of young lads from all over the world and with families from migrant and refugee backgrounds are going to see a protest against a racist politician as less "supportive" of them than business as usual.

If this happens it will get messy. People on here are underestimating how many people in the fanbase are done with this now and just want to move on and get behind the lads for 8 massive games. People won’t be happy, it will kick off and that will spill over into the ground and the atmosphere will be shocking when we need it at 100% for the rest of the season.

It will also be all over social media before kick off and we’ve seen plenty of footage of the players on Town in 5 on their phones before games. They will then go into the game knowing the fans have been fighting outside. Before anybody says there will be no fighting we all know there will be.

Could you have just typed that without calling it 'gimp level cringe'. Why does everything have to be so hyperbolic and unreasoned.

Because that’s what it is.

So anyone who does not attend or support is a racist? Who are you protesting against?

Sounds as if the people you’re describing who will kick off and turn violent on protestors, don’t really have the best interests of the team close to hand, but have another agenda they feel is more important.

To me there is one easy solution to this.

If Ashton is no longer chairman by then, the protest is no longer needed.

Be that from Ashton's own choice or from the owners' acting, that would be the best outcome.

It would be a clear statement that the club is not comfortable getting in bed with Reform.

If people are so unhappy they kick off and get physical because some people held a protest and hurt their feelings, they've got the mental maturity of a child and shouldn't be trusted outside without adult supervision.

They will also be the ones ruining the atmosphere. They could ignore the protest. Tut and eye roll as they walk past. Then get into the ground and support the lads.

I think this is well meaning but personally would remove the anti-reform messaging. Whilst reform are completely the opposite end of the political spectrum to my own beliefs, I can see how this would come across as divisive

Why not just make it a Love Town, Hate Racism march. Surely everyone can get behind that message and show that Ipswich is a welcoming club for all

Not the case at all. Guaranteed somebody will say something to the protestors, they will chip back, it will go back and forth until somebody loses their rag. The chance of it getting violent would come from both sides.

I have a feeling that type of scenario will happen on Monday, protest or not. Who should be held responsible for this? There’s now a dividing line that didn’t previously exist. For no other reason that I can fathom that the Chairman has some sympathy for Reform. It’s such a stupid own goal.

I completely agree with the sentiment, but I'm concerned that this may well be counterproductive and could continue into the stadium and have an effect on the game. And yes I appreciate that some things are more important than 22 men kicking a bag of wind about.

Let's be clear here. Ashton and or the club invited a toxic racist politician into our club and allowed his vile party to exploit our name, logos and reputation. Ashton and or the club then proceed to lie about the events that took place and the circumstances behind it. When he was caught in the lie he offered up a mealy mouthed non apology.

For all of the above he deserves to lose his job. That is my view and the view of a great number of supporters on here and on social media. I have no idea if that is the majority view or the minority view of our fanbase. It may not be the view of the people who make the decision. We don't know

There has to be a day of reckoning for Ashton. But I don't think that should happen during matchday. As supporters we can vocaly support Kieran McKenna and the players on matchday whilst making the club aware of our views on Mark Ashton on any other day.

Regardless of thoughts on the protest, how are the club going to hear a protest on any other day?

Has that worked thus far?

They have totally ignored all of that for week and issued a rubbish apology.

If the atmosphere is shocking that is entirely the fault of the club and Ashton, not fans airing their grievances.

I am against the made up stats. Against calling for the resignation of Marcus Nash unless more information has come out and he actually had a say in what happened. Against filling in gaps in what we know with guesswork (yes that is partly on the club but there could be things we don't know that Ashton would love to tell us but can't - owner involvement etc). Against calling Reform voters enablers of racism and fascism as well to be honest. That one will go down like a lead balloon.

Good luck to them though. We will see how many agree based on the turnout. I suspect they will get around 100.

How is voting for am intrinsically racist party not enabling racism?

It won’t happen if everybody just does their job as a supporter and goes there to solely get behind the team.

I’ve got a £20 bet running with a mate that there will be punch ups in the stands at a game over this whole issue before the season is out. Got a feeling it could be easy money.

Thus there will be five protests in the hypothetical protests:

Love Cheese, Hate Sprouts
Hate Cheese, Hate Sprouts
Love Cheese, Love Sprouts
Hate Cheese, Love Sprouts

which will descend into chaos as the LCHS group turns on itself due to the LCHS Love Broccoli faction turns on the LCHS Hate Broccoli faction.

And most will just walk by with slightly-raised eyebrows.
