Worst Town Kits, Home and Away 20:12 - Mar 30 with 2475 viewsDubtractor

Inspired by that BBC worst kits feature, I thought it might be a nice distraction to consider our kit horror shows from over the years.

Home Kits
That first Magical Vegas one is obviously a contender, but the kit itself (sponsor aside) was pretty inoffensive, something straight out of the Adidas catalogue. For me, the 'coca cola' stripe kit from the mid 00s is the worst offender, looked bad on it's own, but the stripe never lined up with the shorts so made the whole team look a shambles.

Away Kits
It's a tossup between the 95/96 Green and Burgundy shocker, or the 96/97 cream (!) and black Abbot Ale shirt. The green and burgundy takes it though. Dreadful effort.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I agree. I just don't think red is an Ipswich colour.

The black/grey third kit annoys me more though as it does not have the proper Ipswich badge on it, and I think we wear it just to sell more shirts when we could play in blue instead.

Red is an incredibly dull colour to have as an away kit.

I do think that the away kit should always be bright orange.

I agree, but pair it with black or white shorts. I don’t know why Town’s away kits always seem to have to have shirts and shorts the same colour.

Agree 100% on both those.

But I loved the cream and black striped effort. No idea why. It really shouldn’t work but for me it did.

Always hated it but it’s another one that wouldn’t have been so bad with plain white shorts.

Surely with plain white shorts, it would've looked like everybody had pulled their shorts up too far, Simon Cowell-style?

The cream and black Abbot Ale is one of my favourite away shirts ever.

Oh, I'd forgotten that one. Bloody hell.

Instantly makes me think of Alex Mathie though.

Mathie's hatrick v the Budgies is the saving grace for that shirt. Like you, instant flashback.

No saving grace, I’m afraid. We’d moved on to the white-sleeved shirt with the horsey trim by the time of Mathie’s derby hat-trick.

Had to be when Town decided to play in blue shorts. Hopefully, that will be the only time.

Same era but this surely has to have a mention for worst. Props to the designer who found a way to only design half a shirt.

I remember this was nicknamed the Star Trek shirt as it looked like we were in the transporter deck after they said energised and as I type this I realise why not many people talk to me.

It always looked like someone had put it in the wash at the wrong temperature. But those "faded" kits were briefly a "thing". The dreaded diagonal white slash, after someone won a competition to design it, is the worst home shirt I can remember.

I like the idea of a faded shirt going from shit to navy blue at the top.

But that shirt is a tad too clumsy to be good.
