Trump essentially doesn't care. He has always had the money, henchmen and lawyers to make enemies irrelevant to him. Now has an entire country with a large military and security apparatus also. Mob boss writ large. Nobody is strong enough to take him down - altho time or an assassin's bullet may still finish things.
He's in a situation now where he can't afford to stop being President. Which is quite concerning. | |

But not every person abominably rich is an a-hole. Met a few and an acquaintance of mine is a peer of the realm with more money than most people can dream of. But you wouldn’t know it to meet him and he never uses his title. In his case, he is comfortable in his own skin so doesn’t feel the need to.
He’s probably an exception but I struggle with the psychology of people like Trump. I know mega rich = no rules in theory but he must have had somebody that said no. Or shoved his head down the lavatory.

Absolutely. One job I had involved researching the very wealthy for charities. Most of them are entirely reasonable people and many actually enjoy giving away their money (often rather than passing a vast sum on to their children, which has a sad history of waste and ruin).
In my youth, I knew an extremely wealthy man who lived just outside the village. You wouldn't have known it by his manner, clothes or the car he drove. He also controlled two of the larger grant-making trusts in the UK. Have met a few others since, none of whom have been unpleasant.
My argument is more that money has amplified Trump's preexisting personality and shielded him from consequences. I'm not sure that he necessarily feels any of those things when looking in the mirror. Probably just "What a fine fellow I am!". He lives in an alternate universe where everything revolves around him, his needs and desires. People are just toys. Other than perhaps his father (who seems to have been a bit of a bastard himself), I'm not sure anyone has said no to Trump - not without being punished, sued or destroyed afterwards. I don't think he's ever had to develop a mature, adult view of the world.
He's getting odder because, unlike his first term, he has surrouinded himself with people who won't push back, if not outright cultists. Or, more dangerously, people happy to humour him in order to further their own agendas. There is no envelope to push any more.
Add to that his advancing age (with which he's not gaining wisdom), plus who knows what medication he may be on.
Putin, in comparison, is entirely rational, if working from a somewhat different perspective on the world than we in the West.
I have long said I doubt Trump will complete his second term. Perhaps not through death, but maybe incapacitation or even getting fed up with constantly having to work. Whatever happens, I will not be sorry to se him depart the scene. | |

Your first two paragraphs illustrate the true meaning of "Class" IMO, of which there can be varying levels, but Trump has none.
In my previous employment I worked for a Chauffeur company, I got to see many people and hear Chauffeur stories (usually exaggerated, though sometimes corroborated by others), the classy to the classless, those who genuinely made it and are comfortable in themselves, those in various stages of making it, or failing to. Those failing to tended to be sheets.
I'm absolutely certain Trump is racketeering, many of his presidential plays supporting insider dealing, he has a weird obsession with gold (but is not alone in that), and little understanding of what has driven Ukraine to resist Putin and that Iran is about ideology of the collective ruling class not one supreme ruler.
If there is a god, now would be a great time to have a word with Trump, except I expect he'd be arrested by ICE for arriving without a visa |  |
