| Soton v Arsenal 20:05 - Apr 4 with 1133 views | Zx1988 | Southampton wearing a special away kit at home so, usually, I'd hope to see them get thumped. But... It's quite nice, and at least it has a legitimate reason to it. And anything that might serve to distract them from the league would be welcome. (Not that it would impact us this season - we're going up automatically. I'd much rather the playoffs were won by one of Boro/Millwall/Hull/Wrexham though, who'd probably be less competitive than Soton next season.) | |

Same design of kit they wore in the 1976 FA Cup final win.

It's essentially a replica of their Cup-winning kit from 50 years ago, but for the modern sponsors etc., that they've had to include. Similar number set and no names as well.

Really taking the game to Arsenal. They're going to be quite the challenge when we go down there.

I hope they have a FA cup semi final to be thinking of/just been played, just like Coventry did 2 years ago when we went there just after they lost in ET to United. [Post edited 4 Apr 20:34]

It'd be just been played. The semi finals are weekend of the 25th. They'd have another midweek to rearrange as well - Blackburn at home. Would probably have to go to April 14th, as they're already playing on the 21st, which means they'd be going Tuesday-Saturday for the rest of the season.

| Soton v Arsenal on 21:26 - Apr 4 with 740 views | Mark | I switched it on and wondered where the game was being played, with Southampton in yellow. Clubs seem to find any excuse not to wear their proper colours these days. 1-1 now. Extra time would be good. | | | |

Was hoping for extra time to wear them out but the distraction of a Wembley semi final works, too.

They might be burned out after the FA Cup semi final and no midweek break between now and the end of the season.

Being positive, it's not going to be an easy game for them either. And given their fixture pile up (ok ours isn't great) and the FA Cup factor, a midweek visit from us is probably not top of their wish list.

Both of us have a practically identical run in terms of games, assuming the Blackburn game is rearranged for Tuesday 14th. Monday 6th: Ipswich v Birmingham Tuesday 7th: Wrexham v Southampton Saturday 11th: Norwich v Ipswich Saturday 11th: Southampton v Derby Tuesday 14th: Portsmouth v Ipswich Tuesday 14th: Southampton v Blackburn (presumably) Saturday 18th: Swansea v Southampton Sunday 19th: Ipswich v Middlesbrough Tuesday 21st: Southampton v Bristol City Wednesday 22nd: Charlton v Ipswich Saturday 25th: West Brom v Ipswich Weekend of the 25th: Southampton v FA Cup opponents Tuesday 28th: Southampton v Ipswich Sunday 2nd: Ipswich v QPR Sunday 2nd: Preston v Southampton

Let’s hope they draw Leeds/West ham in the semi final, that would give them a greater chance of reaching an FA cup final..an even greater distraction.. but what a lovely one for them to have..

I thought you were allowed to wear another kit at home on one occasion in the league each season? Maybe the rules are different in the cup? Perhaps there can do it more? The only time I remember us not wearing blue at home in a competitive match is when we wore the black kit 2 years ago v derby.

Just because it's "allowed" doesn't legitimise the practice IMO. Pure commercialisation, but some people like buying different club kits so it's not really my problem, but I think any game of football loses something when teams wear unfamiliar kits for no real reason. I still get annoyed when Town don't wear blue when they can e.g. at Wrexham.
