I’ve got us gaining another 13 points which would give us a final total of 85..do we think this would be enough for promotion?

We are definitely in a good position now. Our worst 7 game run since our poor start in August has (I think, checked quickly but didn't go through with a fine toothed comb) yielded 11 points. If we take 11 points between now and the end of the season then we'll finish on 83 points, meaning with GD Boro or Millwall would need to take 12 points from their remaining 5 games. They'd need a big uptick in form to overhaul us even if we only manage to match some of our poorer form.

We do have to play in the form table, the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 7th placed teams, and that still does not include Boro who have Hackney + Whittaker to return. It's going to be very tough I think.

Same … 13 points. Four wins (Portsmouth, Charlton, Borough and QPR) and a draw (WBA).

If we don't do it, we can't say we didn't have the opportunity. It has been in our hands for several weeks now but this is the first time it has felt like 'ours to lose'. Four wins will do us (especially if one comes v Boro) I reckon but I'm bracing myself for further twists.

A 2022-23 style end would be handy now.

I think a draw at Pompey is more realistic as they are fighting for every single point right now. That means we have to avoid defeat against Nodge, Boro and Saints and win the others to get at least the 13 points I reckon we need to secure 2nd. It would be nice to keep the unbeaten run going until the end of the season as well.

That’s assuming that Wall don’t win all their games which of course is a possibility but unlikely.

We've played in form teams before and we're fourth in the form table ourselves, a couple of ref decisions away from being even higher. We're clear favourites now and rightly so.

And a ref decision away from being 4th yesterday, hopefully we'll get another one to balance the others out.

Realistically 13 unless Millwall win out, unlikely.

will it be millwall (7 points in last 5 games) or boro (3 points in last 5) who get the magic 15 points out of 15?

if you're that confident, get down the bookies, the odds will be enormous!

I predict of our last 7 games:

3 wins
3 draws
1 loss

12 points, totalling 84. Seems consistent with our general form, especially Away from home. Whether it's enough depends on not losing v 'boro, and on how Millwall do, obvs. They would need 13 points from 5 though.

At least our goal difference, barring a massive shock score line somewhere, should remain superior from this point.

that’s 11 points mate..

Haha, well spotted! Even better.

So even a modest end to the season of 3W 2D 2L would require either Millwall or Boro to go 4 wins from 5 to overtake us. Even an unbeaten run of 3 wins and 2 draws wouldn't do it for them because of the GD being in our favour.

Norwich A - Draw
Portsmouth A - Win
Middlesbrough H - Loss
Charlton A - Win
West Brom A - Draw
Southampton A - Loss
QPR H - Win

That's quite pessimistic and even so that's 10 pts leaving us on 82 points

Middlesbrough and Millwall would need 11 points from their last 5 games to overhaul us so win 4 out if 5 or go unbeaten. Can maybe see Wall doing it with their fixtures but still seems like we suddenly have some much needed margin for error, I feel confident we'll do it now which is an 180 swing from how things looked on Friday!

Losing to Boro isn't an option.

They have Pompey (H), Sheff Weds (H) and Watford (H) as their other games between now and the final day. While their form is poor, especially at home, they would be capable of winning those 3. If they're going into the final day on 84 points we'll be in a bit of bother I think. It would mean we would need 4 wins from the other 5 games to keep it in our hands, which are all away and include 2 of the in form sides in Norwich and Southampton.

The Boro game is massive, and we can't lose it.

I reckon we'll get 12 or 13.

Likely that we'll lose 1 or 2, given the tough fixtures, but i think we'll have enough to get it over the line.

I can see a world where we lose the Boro game and they drop points in 1 or 2 of those home games. (Wednesday at home admittedly a banker for them)

They seem to be unable to beat any sides who defend in numbers and much happier playing a side who come at them leaving space to exploit. So I don't make you right here at all, we could lose the Boro game and still be favourites to go up.
