An interesting angle this season, which is linked to a team in transition and fans struggling to reconnect with a new group of players after the amazing class of double promotion - is just shows that many fans have gone from figures of derision and questioning of transfer fees, into players of worth (if not full adoration)
Let’s go:
1) OShea - loads of fans questioning him, but he’s been amazing and is turning haters into lovers. BUT this seems to not yet to be universal.
2) Jack Clarke - my word he was getting some derision last season, now universally lauded
3) Philogene - a chorus of negativity around me, questioning of being light weight, now highly rated, but still not a fan favourite
4) Taylor - not 100% buy-in from the blue army, but a meeeh player is now rated
5) Azon - a comic character from fans around me, roundly not rated, now becoming a bit of a favourite, still a way to go though
6) Johnson - many questioning the wages, the original intent of the signing, but in three cameo performances and a goal, has changed some opinion
7) McAteer - universally derided, fee questioned, quality queried - but beginning to show the incredibly physicality has a bit more to it… MOTM performance against Brum. Fan relationship rehabilitation in play
Chuba and Egeli with some work to do
And the boo boys turning to Hirst and perhaps Chuba as next focus
I do think Greaves has done enough to prove his worth?!

But it’s not just those around me, I’d say the most common view I’ve heard from Town fans in general is McAteer was overpriced and not at the right level to replace the Burns role.
Hopefully that will shift with more performances like Brum.
What’s the view in the North Stand?
I personally could really see his physical attributes and engine, and had hoped/expected McKenna might develop the service and finishing. But was beginning to question that point of view.

It’s utterly deranged. I know we all like a grumble and football will always be emotional, but to sit down and clip together a video to make your point is lunatic behaviour. Even more so when it was clearly McAteer’s best game for us. Why not just enjoy it instead of going to all that trouble to tear someone down? | |

I heard some people walking out of the ground moaning about the game and season - I get there is room for some questioning - but the level of negativity was remarkable!! I think that’s what some people go to the games for. Sat in the Sir Alf upper last season - awful sniping at players [Post edited 7 Apr 13:34]

Totally agree.
McAteer's best game for us - Yes but not too difficult. I hope that goal gives him confidence. However, he was poor in parts of the game too. It is allowed.
Hirst again wasn't that great but I saw a post saying it was his best game for us for "quite a while". I'm not sure on the time scale of that but I thought he's had better games this season.

They have to be a very sad individual to do something like that. It's not uncommon, even on here though, for some to totally focus on the mistakes/bad bits when they often only account for 2% of the player's game.

Sadly there are those that hate the players and the team. Never known anything like it.
McAteer did fine. He battled, kept going, got in good positions, troubled them with his pace. It was one heck of a good goal too.
Hirst was up against some big lads and did well too. A good assist and wasn’t bullied. Nor did he go down at every opportunity as Azon tends to do. He did ok and I just wish people would leave GH alone.
He is no Paul Mariner, but I’ve seen a heck of a lot worse turn out for this club including Conor Sammon who looked like a bloke from the local boozer who’d won a raffle prize to turn out for his local team. Not one of Mick’s finest punts. |  | | |

Re Macateer: he's still hugely found wanting technically, something which will never change, but hes starting to hit his stride and his qualities are coming to the fore. He's especially strong at making runs in behind from out wide, which is a vital part in how we play, and when he's on it he can be a constant outlet and danger on that side.
And to give him his due when he gets his head up he can pick a pass which I feel he's added to his game since his Leicester days.
He will never make it in the PL though due to his technical failings. Close control, first touch, and weaker foot all substandard, even for this level and he will be easy to defend by players who have the anticipation and athleticism to negate his strengths
I really see him as a wing back rather than a winger. His damage is done through clever movement and energy rather than skill. He'd be great on the right in a 3 5 2 [Post edited 7 Apr 18:11]

Pretty much agree with everything with small differences here and there only. Players take different amounts of time to adjust to different cicumstances, both playng and private life. No one size fits all. Just give them a proper chance is all I say. |  | | |

I see him making direct runs and trying to make an impact in most of his games he has played in recently, hope his goal now gives him the confidence to get a couple more before the end of the season. | | | |

McAteer - obviously delighted for him that he finally scored … but he had four good chances. Fluffed his lines with a 1:1, blazed over in the first minute when frankly he should have got the shot on target. Had a chance second half and didn’t make the most of it. So, one in four.
I’ve never booed him. I want him to do well, but he was hit and miss again. Can’t say I’ve been impressed with him. One goal doesn’t make him a world beater. Did okay in spells yesterday. Certainly no JP or Clarke. I rate Egeli higher. Just my view. | | | |

Suggest you rewatch that shot and incident... its a first time shot from outside the D hit with real venom that was really close, and for me showed some strong technical ability and set the crowd going
