| World Cup this summer… 17:33 - Apr 13 with 1366 views | brazil1981 | Maybe I’ll feel different nearer the time, but currently not feeling any enthusiasm for it whatsoever! Would never happen I know, but would love it if England and other Euro nations pulled out in protest against Trump’s antics! | | | | |
| World Cup this summer… on 18:30 - Apr 13 with 1214 views | Illinoisblue | It all feels rather inconsequential when one of the host nations is at war with one of thr qualifiers. Add in the expanded format, THREE host countries, obscene ticket prices, Infantino’s corruption and peace prize disgrace and, well, fk it all, really. Still hope England win it, of course, but meh. | |

| World Cup this summer… on 18:35 - Apr 13 with 1177 views | Blue_Heath | Same, more concerned with Town at the moment but like you say nearer the time, being in the Americas also doesn't help though as we are unlikely to win it due to climate, plus all our players other than Kane and Pickford seem to be off form. | |

| World Cup this summer… on 18:39 - Apr 13 with 1176 views | rkc123 | I think everyone has a formative world cup they remember from their childhood that often sparked a love for football (France 98 for me), and I I think partly because of this I do usually manage to forget who is making the money from it and just enjoy the football when it starts. I do agree though that this time around, the combination of FIFA and Trump/America, it all feels a bit much, and I'm not sure if I'm really going to spend a lot of time watching this one. | | | |
| World Cup this summer… on 18:42 - Apr 13 with 1162 views | blueoutlook | I’ve just placed a few bets on the World Cup, so it’s got me a bit more interested than I was. | World Cup this summer… on 18:54 - Apr 13 with 1115 views | Radlett_blue | The World Cup finals become more bloated as time goes on & 48 teams makes it even worse. Still, adopt my usual strategy - just watch the England group games and no others and then begin to pay some attention to the k/o games. | |

Yep. Also extended VAR, and matches split into quarters to allow even more advertising. I am not looking forward to it, but will watch the England games and a few others. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

There's a chance I might have a spare ticket for the 3rd group match in New Jersey. Oh well!

England's games are at good times for us to watch, but it does mean they will be playing a lot during the daytime rather than the cooler evenings. So I'm not going in with high expectations.

That's the biggest problem for me. Removes almost all of the jeopardy from what should be the best part of the tournament with so many games every day. The group stage games between two decent teams are almost entirely irrelevant.
| World Cup this summer… on 10:46 - Apr 14 with 622 views | BlueandTruesince82 | I dont care. England look average, we're not going to win it and despite a talented group with no obvious Kane replacement I don't see us making later stages for a while after this tournament. Think we're a Kane injury away from a difficult tournament. Its in America, its overpriced and over hyped. Ridiculous that the America will have hosted 2 world cups in my lifetime and the UK not even 1. Trump will be everywhere "I'm very good at soccerball, my son Barron likes soccerball, he says I'm the best at soccerball, I could have gone pro but I wanted to make real money, maybe I'll become president of FIFA and we'll always have the world Cup here" Its just a distraction from ITFC transfer news IMO | |

The expansion of it has just make this more of a joke than the Euros. 48 teams to 32 means only 1/3rd get eliminated from the groups, after a load more games. I'll concede it makes the last games a bit more "exciting" as people can usually still qualify even if they've lost the first two, but it makes the groups a bit nonsense like you say. Sometimes less is more.....and in this case, for me anyway, that is the case.
| World Cup this summer… on 14:50 - Apr 14 with 470 views | wischip | It's really going to drag on this time with too many games played. Even the most enthusaistic viewer will be wishing it all over by the time it plods onto to the semi-finals and a usual last 4 nations remain. I'm only going to watch games with Ipswich/ex-Ipswich players in, don't know many that is yet. | | | |

| World Cup this summer… on 15:15 - Apr 14 with 437 views | bluelagos | World Cups.are the best example of where football has moved from an event for ordinary football fans to watch & enjoy to a corporate w*nkfest driven to bring in as much money as possible from sponsors, hospitality, ticketing and TV revenue. Awesome if you think football is all about money, sh1t if you experienced football before if went to sh1t. Traveled the length and breadth of Italy in 1990 following England, took on a couple of games of Usa94 (was crap) France 98 and Japan. Couldn't get to South Africa (work commitments) but have happily not gone to Brazil, Russia or Qatar due to the ever increasing circus of a tournament and not regretted skipping them for a second. Same with this tournament tbh. Modern football in all it's glory....no thanks. | |

Completely agree. Largely just eliminating the teams which shouldn't have qualified in the first place.
