and fast track their applications many of you say on here. If the ones who have been here a while are prepared to blatantly lie to get residency you can be sure as hell the ones on the boats will too. We need to be much much harder on immigration. Enough is enough. This report highlights how broken the system really is.

If you cut the funding for the department that handles all immigrants then you end up with a backlog and mistakes happening.

Fund it correctly, create safe routes for migrants, process them quickly and accurately and everyone is happy...... aren't they

The story here is that members of the legal profession are advising claimants on how to circumvent the law and how to fabricate the evidence to do so.

Regardless of the issue, members of the legal profession should hold up the law to the highest standards. Any found to be lying and fabricating claims and evidence need to kicked out.

I'm really shocked people are fibbing in their asylum application.

Who says this?

Absolutely no one.

Being a right wing edgelord these days, seems to mainly involve making up a scenario, or finding a small unique instance of something, and then pretending its a massive problem and that the other side think its okay.

Utterly disingenuous.

They have been calling them "legal advisers". Are they actually members of the legal profession, or just general dodgepots?

More safe routes, set up centre's in France. Similar to when Ukraine initial crisis. Zero tolerance on boat crossings/illegal entry. Need to kill the boat money model.

Humanity to those in need and those who want a better life and prepared to work hard but also protect the uk population.

If you're desperate enough to risk the channel in a small, open boat, then embellishing your story a bit to stay here (rather than being sent back to the country you originally fled) is fairly small beer.

when you say 'embellishing your story a bit' you actually mean a terminological inexactitude right?

Or determined enough. I have no doubt that there are plenty who are prepared to play the system for game. No system is perfect. The only story here is something has been found out- and we should address it.

Save us a lot of bother and just get to the actual point. Are you saying that some people do exactly what you would likely do if you were in their position if advised to do so ?

But as an illegal immigrant, there is no system to play. You can't claim benefits. You can't get a proper job. Renting a home will be tricky. The best to hope for is a precarious cash job, constantly looking over your shoulder for the police (or crime, even more so).

Telling lies, exaggerating the truth. Same as many people do on CVs and job applications, not to mention those who bought homes under self-certification.

Very true- though there is lots of illegal working happening.

What you can do is lie to get your application through, or pay intermediaries to get you work visas etc. These things are happening. But they are not the massive problem suggested- and neither are they things that the establishment or government thinks is "okay".

Gonna go out on a limb and say the OP has no real life experience of asylum seekers or the asylum system. Absolutely rancid ignorance.

This is why we will get a Reform government, or worse. They couldn't pay for better headlines than this. Unless the numbers have shot up dramatically it doesn't look like much of an issue at all over an entire year.

The story here is not about the migrants, it is about unscrupulous "legal advisors" trying to exploit desperate people - if someone from Pakistan (who is most likely Muslim) is willing to pretend to be gay (not generally a popular thing to declare in the world of Islam), then that is quite a risk they are taking of being found out, then either being deported, or shunned amongst their peers.

"But the BBC News investigation reveals the process is being systematically exploited by legal advisers extracting fees from migrants who want to stay in the country.

These are often people whose student, work or tourist visas have expired, rather than those who have just arrived in the country on small boats or through other illegal routes."
