If we guaranteed to finish above Southampton before we get there 22:18 - Apr 21 with 1154 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

Surely they’ll want to get rid of the year 1 parachute team from the division and focus on the playoffs for themselves! In fact maybe they’ll even put a bit more into Saturday if we win tomorrow!

Big relief, I was convinced 84 points would do it for them and the way they were going….

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

This is the thing. They may actually prefer us to not be in that play off if we go to them having already achieved 6 points prior

Even 3 points prior and they will struggle to overtake us on GD. It could make the dynamics of that night rather different if they can’t go second. Obviously you’d think they’d want to win in case we mess it up last day but if we can get there basically out of sight it would be nice!

Still can't believe you're worrying about Southampton and not Millwall 😂😂😂

Tunnel vision much?

Maybe or they may fancy Millwall as a PL rival next season!

I'm hoping Charlton go into tomorrow not wanting to see that, but with Oxford playing Weds in their penultimate game they'll still be desperate for a point. If we can do our business tomorrow then there's a fair chance Oxford will go into the final game against Wall with a chance of survival, which would be helpful.

not sure, soton have already lost to millwall, doubt they'll want to play them either.

if we get this done against them, it may have to be the hard way!

You mean the form team in the country and the team that just went second?

Sorry you’re right, I should completely trust us!

We are winning tomorrow though!

I mean it could just be a different kind of night if they can’t overtake us and looking at our fixture last day. No teams throw anything but mentality can shift a bit no doubt.

Football matches are played between teams of 11 players. Rarely will a collective of 11 professional players go out and think strategically about not trying to win a game, unless a draw makes obvious sense, such as the notorious West Germany - Austria World Cup game. A manager might think strategically, resting certain players for less important games, but most players will go out & try to win a game. I'm sure Saints will be trying as hard as they can to win their semi final on Saturday & with automatic promotion looking very unlikely, they may well rest a few players against us (saving them for the FA Cup final or the play offs) so Tuesday's game looks a lot more winnable after tonight's results. Saints will almost certainly only have a faint mathematical chance of top 2 by Tuesday anyway.

I know I agree, see my last post. Just think it changes things compared to say the ability to leap frog us and go second. We need get our results before anyway, especially looking at what Wall might do.

I don't think anyone is 'worrying' about Southampton catching us in this thread. It's about what position they will be in when we face off next week. It benefits us if Southampton are out of the running for Autos and have one eye on the play-offs.

We can't do anything about Millwall, we have to assume they'll win 2, so we need to win 3. Southampton focussing on the play-offs could help us do that.

If the last few games has taught us anything it is that none of us have the foggiest what's going to happen.
