I think that you've fundamentally missed the point.

Some people are gullible. Some people have an agenda.

When the folks with an agenda start pumping out such weapons grade inflammatory posts, based on clear lies, falsehoods and half truths, it's incumbent on all folks, wherever you sit on the politics spectrum, to call them out.

I'm far from a bleeding hearts liberal, but it's tolerating less extreme stuff than this which has lead us to a situation where people are openly saying how they want to burn down migrants hotels and COVID conspiracy peddling loon, with a want to sniff Carol Vordermans derrière and a friend to known neo fascists is now standing, with a realistic chance, to become an MP.

I am not saying you shouldn't challenge people's views. It's just that personal abuse (whether relating to football or general matters) is pretty rife on TWTD, and it is my view that you don't win an argument or persuade someone to change their views by resorting to personal abuse.

It mustn't be forgotten also that political views often seem to derive ultimately from something deep within the individual, so, for example, no amount of argument will persuade a Tory to support policies of a left-leaning government.

Added to that, free speech and with it proper discourse are a corner-stone of liberalism, and this should be at the forefront of the mind of every bleeding heart liberal.
