Even if you can't or won't consider and understand the data and mechanisms and linked consequences, graphics like this (and countless others that show the same thing time and time again) should be triggering some sort of concern in everybody who has a stake in the future, and anybody who doesn't but still cares about other humans and other species. What do you think happens next?

It is also to be noted that 9 of the 12 monthly UK maximum temperature records have been set since 1976, with 8 since 2003 and 7 since 2011. This is a disturbing trend.

Indigenous trees and other flora are also going to suffer, as is being seen and subtle changes are being seen already. Be prepared to change the way we garden, grow vegetables etc, etc. Many garden plants that were considered tender in this country 20 or so years ago are now growing quite happily in the climate we’re now experiencing. I most probably won’t be around, but a Mediterranean type landscape in parts of this fair isle will most likely be the norm in the not too distant future.

Was just going by the BBC. ‘Before Monday and Tuesday's record-breaking highs, May's warmest day in the UK was 32.8C in 1922 and 1944’ Was it global warming back then or just, weather?

These current temperatures are becoming the norm. The ones that you posted were an anomaly. It’s warming up pretty quickly and much more regularly. The evidence is there and I know from experience in the horticultural world that this is the case.

| 35.1C in May on 23:45 - May 26 with 2887 views | floridablue | Just wondering if it's something that ever factors into baking hot British summer days as it does in Florida. Heat factor index here always rises another 5 or so degrees above the announced maximum temperature. Example, todays local high was 93f and the news weather guy said with heat index feels like 98f! Perhaps that's because of the high humidity in Florida and that doesn't really happen in Blighty! | | | |
