Steve Bruce was Man Utd's penalty taker one season!

The player's position matters nothing. You pick the combination of who is the best penalty taker and who has the best composure/control of nerves (from those still available to take them).

It reminded me of the time David Linighan took the 5th Penalty for us in the Full members Cup away to Chelsea in 1991. Knew he was going to miss.

Quite bizarre David Lowe & Chris Kiwoyma decided not to take one. Especially as Kiwoyma had netted twice that night.

Did Linighan take one at Chelsea?

He'd already missed in that demonstration of 'how not to take a penalty' shootout between us and Luton.

As that Lokomotiv Leipzig quarter final proved.

Still gutted for him as he’d had an immense game, but he wasn’t penalty taking material.

I think that was our first ever penalty shootout?

It used to great on here when people let me say whatever I wanted and giggled along - (Rough translation of post from un-named TWTD contributor, 2026)

That was bizarre. I guess he had the confidence to take it and the other two didn't. They went on to win the league, though!
