This is quite the stat.

It took me a while to realise that the 56/57 season would have contained a young player who was then managed by Robson at the end of their playing careers for Fulham in 68 or us in 69.

It's a very nuanced stat to prove or disprove - need to cross reference all players who played in the top flight from 1956 that would have appeared in a Robson team either at Vancouver Royal Canadians, Fulham, Ipswich, England, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting CP, Porto, Barcelona or Newcastle United down the years.

Heard that on the radio yesterday.

They also said that if Max Dowman has a career like Milner he will retire in 2050.

Trailing vapour since 1999.

Well it's now 13:12, so how long do you think before you'll come back with your findings?

Thanks

I've seen something similiar in the past.

From 2019: ( and Barry played pro football till 2020)

The careers of Stanley Matthews, Peter Shilton and Gareth Barry span every single season of English football back to 1931/32
And the run is of course still active in the form of Gareth Barry

Player Seasons played
Stanley Matthews 1931/32 to 1964/65
Peter Shilton 1965/66 to 1996-97
Gareth Barry 1997-98 to 2017/18*

Ray Crawford played for Pompey in August 1957. So that's a start.

He won't count for 58/59 though as he'd moved to ipswich by then.

Actually, giving it some thought, you don't need all players, just one back from Milner which covers the prior period unbroken in the top flight, then another, then another all the way back to 1956 all of which played under Robson at some stage.

It's quite straightforward going back directly to active under Robson - it's the 12 year gap prior to 1968 that presents the challenge, as to who he managed from 1968 that covered that timeline.

I'm surprised he made such a career out of football. The picture in the X post looks like he has the face for a great career in radio!
