do you think posters should be able to present racially divisive false 14:56 - Jun 2 with 1466 viewspositivity

statements as fact?

should you challenge it? report it as abuse? just accept that this is the standard to be accepted on a football forum in the 21st century?

sorry state of affairs

You challenge it. You provide an example by asking for sources and reasoning. You probably don't get through to the poster, but others might take it on board and see where they could be led down a dodgy path.

I am surprised this has been allowed to happen by the same person on two different threads now. Presumably admin haven't spotted it yet? But making things up with the deliberate intention to cause division isn't something i'd expect to see tolerated on TWTD

you're probably right, though it's annoying that it remains on the site as somehow representative of itfc fans.

guess it acts as a reminder not to take anything from the poster as gospel...

exactly this. challenge it and show it to be false. but policing, and accusations of uneveness (from lots of different directions), is a perfectly legitimate thing to discuss.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

If you're referring to me, I haven't said anything racist at all.

If you think I have, I don't care.

I think you’re just carrying on the argument on another thread

There have been 3 threads on Farage today, all basically saying the same thing.

I haven’t got involved, it’s pointless

I imagine there will be a few more later on,

This is my moan on political posts. It completely covers the board, when you could all keep it on one thread

And I don’t want another argument, I’m pointing out why so many get bored of the same posts

Farage decided to make an "Emergency National Address" today, something that is very unusual.

You don't think that should be discussed?

totally separate question which you haven't answered.

it's perfectly possible to look at the thread title and decide it's not for you. politics is involved in everything, so it'd be a logistical nightmare for admin to police.

Of course, discuss away. It’s a bit strange because last time I checked he’s not PM

But there’s no need to have 4 threads on Farage saying the same thing.

Like I said, I haven’t got involved

And to answer your question, if you think someone is lying and spreading misinformation then yes, challenge it

how do you suggest that you police the threads? should we have a farage thread, a casual racism thread, a lowe thread or lump them all together?

i've seen loads of threads about itfc today, maybe they should all be in one thread, or maybe lump them in with all the southampton ones as a football thread?

maybe start a new board?

I’ve suggested to Phil we have football, General and Politics

Because my post about history is in the same topic as Farage, which I think is a bit silly

history is incredibly political, that's going to be even more controversial than the football/general conundrums!

The idea you posit in your opoening line would probably create even more work for Admins, The last thing they need I imagine.

The problem is if you try to stop people having their say, how ever repulsive that " say " might be to others, then you start going down the black hole of suppressing peoples views and free speech. It usually doesn't end well. I've been on the end of it now and then, but I don't care as it tells you a lot more about the person who's spouting it, then it does about the person on the receiving end.

i see your point, but there have to be limits.

you can't allow hate speech and speech which foments racial division based on untruths, surely?

This isn't exclusive to TWTD at all and isn't aimed at anyone in particular. That said, three things have become the cultural norm over the last decade+

- Intentional shitty action/statement with an apology if needed (transforming into intentional shitty action/statement with a victim complex if called out)

- The inability or unwillingness to think objectively and jump on the popular view OR the niche view to play victim.

- When faced with fact checking or reply from someone attempting to make an objective argument, going on the offensive and trying to diminish the credibility of the person making the counterpoint

This all ties into the theory that to admit that one is wrong triggers a pain response, and you see people go into a social fight or flight response.

Mastering the art of an objective debate is what made us strong, sadly that realisation gets missed more and more as we get distracted by a political system that is thriving on fear mongering, smearing and empowering conspiracies.
