For me it would depend a bit on how that was structured. If there were some hefty tops ups involving appearances/us staying up that took it from 12-13 up to 20 if they were achieved then I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it. I'd agree a straight 20m upfront seems a bit steep. |  |

We paid £15m rising to £20m for Delap two summers ago and he hadn't played in the PL beyond a couple of short sub appearances. That's the sort of money you pay for young English talent.
It's one that probably falls in the bucket of 'you can get better value abroad'. But he is obviously someone McKenna really likes as we have wanted him a couple of times before. | | | |

Apparently Lazio bid £9m but it was very quickly rejected and they didn't return with another bid, seems that Everton have always valued him at a greater price.
It's also worth remembering that he was a part of the great PSR merry-go-round of 2024. Where a bunch of mainly homegrown players moved between a select group of clubs just to benefit from the 100% profit rule. Lewis Dobbin moved the other way for £10m, Newcastle, Forest and Chelsea made similar "swaps".
For what it's worth, I think he's a really tidy player and still young enough to really kick on if trusted with a regular starting spot. He's big, physical and likes a battle, sounds like a great option for us. We need a few to come in for the CM positions and I'd be delighted if he was one of them. |  | | |

Every player signed in England is at a premium! Probably be paying half that if he was in the French league.
But we need PL experience in the squad- we paid the best part of 20m for players with no PL experience last time round. | | | |
