Have I spelt that right ? Just watched the Scotland game from last night thought he played really well, don't suppose there would be much of a chance of us convincing him to come to Town even if we could afford his wage . I wonder who might be on our midfield wants list !

He's been superb for Napoli.

It has always seemed strange that he never made it at Old Trafford?
Especially with Alex Ferguson still having an influence on the club. Something does not add up as he is a Scotsman too. Why would he not have been given preferential treatment? Why was he never fancied or backed?

He is clearly a player that should have thrived there. Is it something personal or is there history we do not know? Hmmmm?

He played a lot of football for United and was never overly impressive for them. Not all his fault a lot of it was just the way United was as a club at the time he was there, it was messy, they could never quite get the midfield balance right and he moved on.

He has obviously kicked on at Napoli and been incredible for them and that's a great example of how important environment is for a player.

He's been excellent for them and is a hero there. Would likely take north of £50m from a CL club to get him and even then he might not want to leave as he apparently loves it there.

Zero chance.

He was born in England but considers himself Scottish ,his name alone couldn't be more Scottish.

He was one of the victims of the financial fair play rules. As a home grown player he represented pure profit, as did Rashford for example, that’s why they wanted rid of them, simple rebalancing of the books.

Man U went through a phase of letting go of reasonable players and replacing them with sideways or backward steps

McTominay being one and falling out with Rashford, another good example of it

Mainoo looked like he was out the door too until Carrick turned up?

Yes for me.

Would be superb alongside Bowen in the forward positions.

That front four begining to take shape nicely.

Would be great if we could get Pele in to spearhead things in the 9 but I’m not 100% convinced he’d move. Worth a shot though. Why not.

Get Battistuta announced at the same time too. Next season is promising now, isn't it?

Although I am sure someone will be along soon to tell us off for not aiming higher than a player from a side that has been relegated. Signing Championship players isn't going to be enough is it?

I would like to endorse that I was not suggesting that we are in a chance of signing him just that I like him as a player .

Winning league titles in Italy. Champions league.., on the list for a ballon dor.

Yeah. Jack it in mate. We got 22 points last time, arguably with a better group, I’m sure he’s a realistic option.

We’ll need elite levels of talent ID.

We’re shopping for player desperate to be in the premier league who are world class…, they exists, see Bournemouth, Brighton, Sunderland, Brentford.

Has Ashton built a process to go get them, (we have the money and status) probably not, no, but let’s judge in August.

None of them will be established world class players in the here and now, in a major league, for obvious reasons. That’s the challenge - if you’ve heard of them, we can’t sign them, that’s a self selected group.

They need to be young and unproven, or in a league abroad where they are more unknown outside that environment.

It’s why the data aggregation is SO important.

Brighton access the whole football world, literally.

We have a list of player Mark worked with at WBA and/or we’ve played against, or had sent to us.

That’s piss poor if we’re honest. Five years to build a process and more money than god. We need to be ruthless this summer or 22 points will look like a fairytale.

I worry about our ability to talent ID. It’s been mitigated with huge amounts of money, but we’re still EFL in mentality and execution. Ashton needs to really step up this summer - he’s a totally different process to be successful at this level. And there’s no excuses now. He’s had all the time, all the money, all the coaching talent to give him the opportunity.

Did he not win player of the season in Serie A?

There are many silly player transfer suggestions this time of the year but I think this may be number 1.

You're considering him by writing this.

If you want to post that someone is a good player just write that you think they are a good player. When you start going on about wages and convincing him to come to Town in June then other posters will think it's a transfer suggestion.

You’re quite right; he wouldn’t come here. And yes, it’ll be fascinating to see who’s on our midfielder wish list and who eventually turns up. We’ve really got to strengthen there. We were cut open like a knife through butter last time in the PL, so need some big upgrades.
