I was reading about the Great White filmed in the Med, and it got me interested in how many shark attacks there have been in the Med or further north.

I was fascinated to read that in 1956 there were two fatalities, according to the map, in deepest, darkest Norfolk on the River Tiffey near Wymondham, where the activity was recorded as 'Attempting to kill a shark with explosives'.

Disappointingly, it looks like their co-ordinates are wrong and it happened in Cornwall, but I had a few amusing minutes imagining a couple of bumpkins, stoned out of their faces on moonshine, lobbing grenades into a ditch at a particularly large stickleback.

Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

From the video I watched it appears there was a great white population in the Med but dwindled due to over fishing, never knew that!

We’ve a good population of sharks over here in Madeira including hammerhead etc but no attacks to my knowledge.

I think the biggest great white ever caught was in the Med

They were fishing for tuna and the shark followed the fish into the net

Just off Corsica

King of the board since 98

While the co-ordinates may be questioned, perhaps they ignited the explosives in Norfolk and their bodies were found in Cornwall?

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. You're gonna need a bigger boat.
