Fan Safety - World Cup 10:22 - Jun 8 with 503 viewsNumber22

What do we think about the fan safety at the World Cup? Seen a few articles and reports on the matter lately.

More so regarding Mexico and the cartels “The state of Guadalajara is also notorious for having the highest number of missing people across the country, with roughly 16,000 cases reported, according to the Jalisco government. For years, civilian groups have carried out near-daily searches throughout the state and have found hundreds of bodies of murdered civilians”

Let alone the obvious threat of regular citizens having access to firearms, conflict in Iran etc etc...

Not sure how they would react to a topless Sheffield Wednesday fan though...

Biggest threat in Mexico will not be the cartels directly, they are smarter than that. It will be down to the huge disruption around matches if the gvmt does not resolve the ongoing disputes with the teacher's union.

It is in the Cartel's interest for a safe WC in Mexico.

The Cartels own most of the bars, hotels, casinos etc., they will be directly profiting from the economic benefits of the WC so won't want to disrupt that!

I think your penultimate paragraph probably highlights the biggest risk.

All that it would take is for one drunken fan to start mouthing off at someone they shouldn't - doubly so in a 'stand your ground' state.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.
