Rumours of Gary O’Neil being clubs initial preferred replacement if McKenna were to go - don’t think he would be a bad choice in all fairness

You're the second person claiming a win over this... and yet no sign of O'Neill.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Maybe give it 48 hours, rather than 1

If this is true might as well just relegate us now.

Is this a case of Ashton getting someone in who bows to his presence rather than a decent appointment?

It does seem like at least two posters knew McKenna was leaving yesterday. And they're both saying Gary O'Neil. Now I'm not saying they're right, but it does make you wonder.

Well given he's not here, we don't know either way yet. So there's nothing to crow about. McKenna leaving doesn't prove you weren't lying about Gary O’Neil taking over.

Feel free to bump this when it happens, but it hasn't.

Well considering a lot of well respected journalists have stated that Gary o’Neil is a leading contender, I’d argue proves that I wasn’t and am not lying about it?

That’s not to say it’s definitely going to happen - I just said that he is currently the preferred option if McKenna was to go which has been reported since the news. What’s to say Ashton might not meet a few other candidates and then change his mind.

I just knew with the information that I was told that McKenna really wanted the Fulham move and was likely to leave (didn’t think it would be by way of resignation). Also in that conservation that Ashton has had conversations with Gary O’Neil already and would be his preferred choice. As I say, that can obviously change.

Please no. Losing McKenna is one thing but our best option is O'Neil??? Why don't we just bring Hurst or Lambert back and be done with it?

McKenna hasn't gone to Fulham and there's no evidence he wanted to either, so I'm not sure how that boosts your case.

Lots of managers have been touted by journos. Nothing proves you weren't lying until Gary O’Neil turns up. I love how you've now added "unless Ashton changes his mind"!

I don't think it's necessarily about whether it's true or not that he's an option, the down votes are more because people don't want him here. Mine was at least!

Maybe people are downarrowing because of the line "Don’t think he would be a bad choice in all fairness".

Phil Ham mentioned Solskjaer on Look East yesterday, but that doesn't prove anything either.

With all due respect, it’s quite clear he wanted the move and we were unwilling to budge .

But he could? Rob Edwards is now available and 2 years ago, he was one of the names that Ashton liked to replace McKenna then. Football changes all the time, I haven’t made up something which you’re alluding to, and now multiple journalists are saying as well - of which I said 24 prior. Don’t understand your reaction at all.

How is it quite clear he wanted to go to Fulham?

I'm really not sure how you've made the leap from "wanting a break from football" to wanting to join Fulham?

Sure, and presumably the same reason applies to all the responses suggesting the OP was lying about Gary O’Neil being a front runner to replace him. Including the one saying ‘ doesn't prove you weren't lying about Gary O’Neil taking over’

Seriously, wouldn’t it just be easier to acknowledge the OP may have known something rather than brazenly continuing to insist you are right, as always?

I don’t think he wanted another potential relegation on his CV. I also think Fulham weren’t willing to pay the £8m plus staff costs and plus McKennas £5m wages here. Would have cost circa £15m for Fulham and we weren’t willing to budge and rightfully so. He would have joined Fulham if they came to an agreement with Town, why else would his agent of leaked it to the press?

He could stay and then if he keeps us up, the £8m release clause is still an issue so is stuck with us for 2 years in his mind which he didn’t want.

I don’t think he’s left for time away, I think he’s left because next summer, he will get pick of the premier league jobs available outside of the top 6, maybe Newcastle for example without the hassle of a relegation on his CV or a release clause.

Just so we're clear. You think McKenna has stiffed us to make sure we didn't get the release clause that he agreed to in his contract?
