Presumably, if a large release clause for a manager is met 19:23 - Jun 9 with 1486 viewsIllinoisblue

Let’s say the clause is 8mill just for example; assume that has to be paid in full and can’t be spread out over x years in the way transfer fees for players are?

Depends on the stance of the club or the wording

Just seen a manager joining a club and compensatiom was 2.5 mill with bonus amoints in the future

£8m isn't large, by PL standards it's money found down the back of the sofa. Clubs pay several times that for one player, and a manager is at the very least as important and I would argue, more so.

Read the other comments on this. £8M compensation does not equal £8M on a player - it is equivalent to several times more. For a club like Fulham it is material to what they’ll be able to do on player trading.

No point in player trading if you don't have a good manager. Managers come first.

Bet 365 has him 2/5 odds on. Next one is 8/1, they must know something

Really, there was me thinking that the odds was based on betting patterns.

That doesn’t make your claim correct though. People keep repeating that £8M compensation is ‘peanuts’, without understanding the true financial impact. Affordability will be a consideration, and of course the club can decide what is best for them when they balance that against their transfer kitty (which is already likely to be modest under SCR given their accounts).

for managers it is if it goes badly they waste 8m pay him off and have to get another, where if a player doesnt work out they can loan him or sell him to recoup the money spent, if it works its worth it but KM as much as we might think he can be has no proof he is a PL manager so its an 8m gamble

That's it entirely.

£8m on a manager takes away, for instance, £40m for a new player on a five-year contract.

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

I keep seeing this argument pop up. You need to factor in it's 8 million just to get him released from ipswich. Then say u offer him 4 years on 5 mill so totalling 28 mill.

Then if it doesn't pan out after 6 months you sack him, are 28 mill down that you can't recoup by selling

Then you need to hire another manager
