I’m sure it will wear off 23:04 - Jun 10 with 771 viewsBlueNomad

but tonight I feel a little less excited about next season. The euphoria of what was happening has been tempered by the uncertainty created this evening.

Anyone else feel the same?

The King is dead.

Long live the King.

I feel exactly the same.

I think the list of names that are circulating around just makes me feel pretty demoralised because there are some seriously uninspiring names I could see being of interest.

Also because Kieran McKenna is a hero and I'm truly gutted he is gone.

Poll: Will Paul Lambert be Ipswich Town manager on the final day of this season ?

Not just you, I feel the same.

As much as I love some of these players, this was McKenna's team, McKenna's squad, McKennna's club, he was the heart of it. And the heart has just been torn out.

He is the first manager since my time supporting Town that has given me anything to cheer about. The first I've been proud to call the manager of the club. We gave him that chance at a managerial position and he returned in spades. No matter what his future holds, we will be able to say that we were that first step on the ladder.

I obviously have no idea who will come in next, but I have a hard time thinking of someone who will give me as much excitement for the season as I'd have going in with Kieran at the wheel. He WAS Ipswich Town. It feels like the club was being run for him. This feels like starting again now.

I'm excited to see what's next.

KM has been awesome for us, and I've loved it.... but we were way off it last time in the Prem.

Let's thanks KM and look forward to the next chapter, rather than wallow.

No, it's been a project, we've now got that new training centre, hopefully an actual recruitment network going and should be ready to hit the next part of the project.

This is the beginning of the ipswich stable in the prem period

Weirdly if anything I feel the opposite.

I don't think we'd have ever sacked him. If we'd gone down again it would have damaged him reputation, not only externally but genuine questions would have started to be asked by our own fan base, and not just the occasional numpty we saw during sticky spells in the season just gone.

It could then have been a question of how wanted he would have felt going into a third championship season, and the likelihood that he would have wanted to move on by that stage anyway...and he'd have left us as a Championship club.

As it happens he leaves us as a top tier club and we have the chance start a new era and attempt to stake our claim properly, this time not just as the plucky underdog. Plus, McKenna has pretty much as good a legacy as you could ever imagine.
