There is no doubt everyone will have their own ideas 07:54 - Jun 11 with 958 viewsmuccletonjoe

And there will be plenty of candidates lined up. It is reported we are looking at a quick replacement being appointed with the next week or so.
It really is a big position to fill after KM. Won't be easy for anyone. Having said that we do have some good players to build a team around for the right man.
Who , exactly would be that man, is not easy to come up with. The likes of O'Neil and Rosenior , two early contenders, I dont see either of those filling people with confidence., so who do I think would be a better fit ?
I will put 3 names up to be shot down, firstly, Steve Cooper, who kept a newly promoted Forrest in PL, secondly Carlos Coberan who has been holding his own with Valencia for the past 2 seasons. Lastly , and perhaps my preferred appointment would be Ole Gunnar Solkjaer, who has been seen at many itfc home games and maybe a recommendation of Kieron Mckennas, he would certainly get the heads up from him if he did take his seat at Portman road.

I hope it's not Ole Solksjaer. He has done nothing in his managerial career to suggest he would be able to keep us up. Failed at Cardiff. United are a basket case and did ok. Failed at Besiktas (maybe a basket case, dont follow Turkish football).

I think its a bit harsh to judge his 6 months at Cardiff who were struggling in Premier league when he took over. Did a reasonable job at Man. Utd and won two league titles and a cup in his native Norway.

He's achieved things at the two clubs with the biggest stature where he had access to the best players in the division. Molde was consistently the second best team in the league prior to Ole and United have always had access to the best players in the league.

We need someone to come in a create an advantage for us. Someone who will get us playing a style and a brand of Football that allows us to compete in games where we wouldn't ordinarily be able to.

That just isn't Ole as proven in his two stints with clubs not naturally at the top of the pecking order.

To expect that to change now would be a huge huge risk

I thought Solskjaer did well at Man Utd, but apparently he did hardly any coaching - he left it to McKenna and Carrick so without them here what would he be?

Yep that's the big concern.

Nice bloke but not sure how much coaching he actually does.

As I said in O.P everyone will have their own ideas . Suffice to say , out of the top contenders , Solskjaer would be my preference. I have a feeling , it may well be someone who is not even in the betting.

Assuming McKenna isn't going to manage for 12 months then OGS would be an interesting one in the sense he would bring continuity and you would think work with the current backroom team (Pert etc). And he worked with Mick Court too at United. He's got some gravitas too so maybe a decent attraction when it comes to recruitment.

The instinct is you want a 'sexy' coach from Europe but I am really not sure that is what we need right now.

I'm not sure how important working with the current coaching staff is.

I want the new manager to bring his own guys with him.

There are numerous names being touted, mostly of managers 'that are available '. Perhaps we are looking at managers currently with other clubs?
Who would you want? Obviously Clement would be funny

Suspect (know) whoever we appoint everyone will moan and groan, like they did when we appointed McKenna (who?) - thats the only certainty out there!

You have got to think that if the club knew two weeks ago he was going a replacement is already being spoken too/ lined up and will be in place very quickly!

Did everyone moan and groan when we appointed Mckenna ?

Someone called him smarmy but other than that everyone I know was open to the appointment and excited for it.

I would say our best chance of survival in the PL would be with Sean Dyche - would we enjoy it though?

Lee Carsley is more of a gamble but plays better football, he's done well with England u21's and did well with the senior team for 5 of those 6 games!

An appointment in the next week or so wouldn’t be a quick appointment - McKenna told the club he was leaving 2 weeks ago.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the new manager is in place in the next few days.

I thought they'd known for 2 weeks at the Club....so I would like to think it will be imminent.
