Conspiracy theories 10:25 - Jun 11 with 702 viewsspringfield

Fed up with all this BS about McKenna leaving for another job, or hating Ashton, or to nullify his £8m buy-out (which he agreed to) etc etc

He has worked for nearly 5 years. With all the promotions/relegations, probably had no more than a week or 2 off during the close season, as much to prepare/sort. Few weekends off, no Christmas, midweek travel, few chances for holidays other times etc etc It's relentless.

He has a young family and will have been missing out on time with them, time he'll never get back. He's earnt a good deal of money, earnt a reputation, so why wouldn't he prefer to spend some time with his kids while they are young.

So enough with the negative spin, he deserves a break.

Hard agree. KM has a track record of being open and honest as absolutely far as he can be. He deserves that to be extended here. If he says that's what he's doing, then he's more than earned my trust, and I'll believe him.

I actually though he looked ill in his goodbye video. I know there's not a shred of fat on him usually anyway, but I thought he looked drawn and thinner than usual. I'm hoping that everything is ok. Maybe it's just the stress catching up with him.

I hate conspiracy theories, and it's ludicrous to say "I reckon that..." or "he's just..." without any evidence whatsoever.

Whether you have massive sympathy for McKenna or are a bit cheesed off that he's left us in the lurch, unless and until there's any evidence to the contrary, all we have is the statements that have been put out. There's nothing else to base a theory or an opinion on.

So I proceed on that basis.

It is true, however, that when high profile employers and employees do severance deals, as was done here (one in which the club was "protected", we are told), they often agree what statement to put out to the press/media. "Spend more time with my family" is as old as the hills, and there will be many many cases where that is the party line despite not being the real reason. So it is conceivable that that is what is going on. We'd be naive not to acknowledge that that is /possible/.

But again, to believe something just because it is possible, based on no real evidence, is not a rational position to take. There may or may not be more to it, and we may or may not ever know. For now, we have to be guided by what evidence there is.

Absolutely agree 100%.

I believe that Kieran McKenna has proved he is a man of integrity that has relentlessly given his all to the task at ITFC. I find some of the conspiracy theories and social media chatter about his resignation so disrespectful to someone who has put so much into our club. The man is clearly shattered and needs a break. So much is spoken about caring for mental health, but then pushed to one side and forgotten so easily.

Football is well paid at top level, but the pressure and work load is enormous as the OP has reminded us. I have seen this personally in my family with one of my sons working in a high level job at a Championship club. The hours expected are ridiculous and you are never off duty. Even on holiday you are expected to take calls and answer emails. Even his CEO told him that "football is no place for a young man with a family". He took his advice and moved on to a less well-paid position with far less stress.

K McK deserves our utmost thanks for giving us four and a half unforgettable years. I am deeply saddened to see him go, but he goes with my gratitude and blessing.
