I understand your point, and agree to a certain extent, but I think that her ability to succinctly convey a relevant tactical point in the short period of time she has during the drinks (advert) break shows why she's been such a successful coach.
She's been on the sofa for other games and I think her level of tactical analysis jars somewhat with the contributions of other pundits in that environment. Giving Hayes her own space to display her talents like this is a good thing, whether the actual set does her any favours is another matter. I do like the blackboard because it's simple and you're not distracted by the technology which would be possible with the tablet/massive screen approach.
Presumably she's reasonably happy with the set up. She doesn't strike me as the kind of person to put up with anything she's not comfortable with. |  | | |

A bit of a mis step for sure from ITV here.
I can't believe for a minute the intention was "a woman in the kitchen" vibe, but sadly that's what the various memes are portraying.
As in most walks of life, women have to break through the acceptance wall before they're even deemed suitable to have an opinion.
Particularly in and around a game like football.
We've seen negativity about female commentators, female presenters and female summarisers.
There have been some terrible pundits over the years, but if they're a women that always features in any criticism of them
You never hear any say "that bloke Chris Sutton is crap", but we find it somehow necessary to denigrate women in certain roles or hold them to a higher bar than male equivalents.
Of course I do not tar everyone with the same brush. My comments are just generalisations.
That said, one of our learned brethren did comment on another thread about her size, accent and appearance. Not one single comment about her ability.

To be honest, most of us women are too jaded and world weary by now to bother getting upset about mysogyny in football.
Personally, I didn't feel particularly offended by Hayes being used for this segment, despite the set being a bit weird. She clearly knows an awful lot about tactics, so I imagine she is very confident in her role, regardless of the backdrop.
Genuine football enthusiasts will appreciate her input, and hopefully won't get distracted by the odd set. |  |

I felt it was a (misguided) attempt, given that the WC is a general global spectacle, to make tactics more ‘relatable’ for people who don’t usually watch football, by having it delivered by an ordinary looking person in a ‘homely’ setting that people are familiar with, rather than a technical screen in a studio, which might seem a bit alien for people not already into football.
Think that could have been achieved in a less odd way though! As it is, your focus is mainly on “why a kitchen?” rather than what she was saying (which was excellent - lucid, succinct & interesting on things I’d never have thought of without her insights). | |

Can you see Neville or Keane exposing themselves to that level, where they’re actually required to give genuine insight into tactics, on the spot in such a short segment?
