I can't see that it has been covered her yet 10:51 - Jun 18 with 1270 viewsArnoldMoorhen

That was an incredibly soft retake for Kane's penalty, wasn't it?

One Croatian defender had a leg in the air in the box, and hadn't stepped in fully yet.

The keeper possibly didn't have anything behind the line, but definitely had his foot on the line.

If that is a retake, then probably every single missed penalty in Prem history (the only football history that counts, fact fans!) should have been retaken.

Talking without bias, as an England fan, we got away with one there!

Did you see Kanes comments that he did the stutter to draw the keeper off the line on purpose? Like, what?! You intended to have a retake? Makes no sense whatsoever.

In the old world, soft.

In a VAR world, it was a stone all retake.

Encroachment AND the keeper was off his line. Both feet were ahead of the line.

Gvardiol encroached, and was then first to the ball to clear.

I thought it seemed quite obvious when he took it (That was my gut instinct) but didn't spot that someone else had encroached into the box as well. Both Kane and the Ref knew straight away which I thought was a telling sign.

VAR was right it was a retake, tight yes but a retake nonetheless. He should have done what he did with the second pen first time around!

The Croatian defender, who was in the area before Kane struck the ball was alos the first person to clear the ball after the keeper saved it. The keeper was also off his line before the ball was struck.

Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened.

That's one way of looking at it.

The other is that he was aware the keeper is prone to coming off his line. Therefore if he does the stutter run up, he either scores or gets a retake with a keeper who is now too scared to move an inch

I thought the retake was fair enough, having seen the TV freeze-frame from the moment Kane struck the ball.

However, thought the initial award of the pen was very soft. Minimal, if any, actual contact (certainly not enough to make him fall over) and the ball away from the players before it happened.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

No, he intended to buy himself insurance if he missed it. If it had been scored, it wouldn't have been re-taken.

That does make sense as he called it straight away when he missed.

Not really considering there were two infringements.

The encroachment by the defender was further compounded by the fact he was the one who reached the rebound and cleared it so that is an obvious advantage from the infringement. Had to be a re-take.

Soft is when it is harsh. Both infringments gained a clear advantage so can't see how you can say it's soft.

Exactly that. Without the VAR freezing the frames there would have been no retake.

Yeah fair enough I guess, just sounded like a weird thing to be thinking before taking a penalty but makes sense when you put it like that

Its a clear retake, keeper had come off his line and the player who encroached was 1st to the rebound to clear.

Didn't he do this recently in another match? I'm not quite sure of the tactic though? If he hits the first one like he did the retake, there'd be no retake.

Errr...no.
Clearly in the area and then went on to clear the ball and goalkeeper was about 6 inches of his line.

I thought he did. I thought he put it in the exact same place, and thought at the time that that was pretty brave/clever!

Trust the process. Trust Phil.
