OGS has a win percentage of 53% 11:27 - Jun 18 with 1050 viewsTwoKnightsInIpswich

That's not too shabby!

I'm sure, if appointed, this would be his toughest test but think he's certainly no worse than others that are supposedly in the running.

that was with a (mostly) world class squad, that he managed to get looking like they were playing as a team and playing to their world quality strengths.

now that's not a bad thing, but if there's not the world class quality there, how has he performed?

I think it was 33% at Cardiff...not spectacular.
But even that would give us 38 it's next season...probably enough to keep us up.

I take the point but his win % should not be read into much.

Over the last 15 seasons, Manchester United and Besiktas have won more than 50% of their games in 11 of the 15 seasons. Molde have won at least 50% of their games in 12 of the last 15 seasons.

These clubs win, regardless of manager.

Cardiff was the only spell he was below 50%. It wasn't great but Cardiff were a strange club and ownership at the time - Vincent Tan remember him?

He won 3 pl games at Cardiff (same as Mckenna) but from only 18 matches as he took over in January.

Overall Solkjaer has won 250 of 471 games as a manager, not too shabby whoever you are managing.

Mckenna 222 games 105 wins 64 draws 53 losses 47.3%
Solkjaer 471 games 250 wins 94 draws 127 losses 53.08%

Stats are meaningless and i'm of course not using them to compare the two it's just for interest as I think people are overly negative on Solksjaer on one spell with a difficult club at the time.

He was only given 7 games of the following Champ season from which they got 8 points. Obvioulsy wasn't great but we were hardly setting the world alight at the start of last season.

I'd be happy with his appointment, think our set up would work really well for him.

a) that's going to apply to any manager coming in - they won't inherit a squad of top PL players
b) there's a transfer window open, and several new (PL quality) players will presumable join

But the key is that there are managers out there that have shown they can get a tune out of a squad without the top players in the division.

Ole has never shown he can do that whereas GON/ Dyche etc have all done so.

The only position that really had world class players was ManU. Cardiff were also a basket case when he went there, with major off field issues. I'd argue it really distorts his record to only focus on the Cardiff tenure.

Even his Besiktas sacking seemed harsh.

Has GON really done that. Apart from a strong interim spell at Bournemouth his record is really not great. He kept Bournemouth up on the back of that interim, their form after he got the job permanently was not great.

His wolves squad came with a decent set of players many of whom have moved to bigger clubs for decent money, he didnt get the most out of them.

Dyche, I can see more the argument but think hes very boom or bust, if we alresdy had Dycheesque players I'd be more for it.

That's not necessarily an endorsement of OGS but I'm not convinced by an argument that GON as done anything other than about 12 decent games at Bournemouth.
