Lack of risk taking in this appointment 22:40 - Jun 19 with 979 viewshunty21

This appointment shows we are not ready or comfortable to go for a manager abroad or have the knowledge to appoint a foreign manager like the brighton, palace bournmouth team have in the past , yes its a risk but in all honesty this was the obvious choice from the start , clearly not many names to consider.
He may well keep us up but come christmas we might be back in the merry go round of managers hunt if things go badly

Bournemouth literally appointed him as a steppingstone to try and stabilize first. Bad example.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Interesting you use Bournemouth as an example.

Who was it that kept them up at the start of their current stay in the Premier League? Oh yes, Gary O'Neil. 15th place.

Also, Palace and Brighton started their Premier League journeys with British managers.

Palace and Brighton only started appointing sexy foreign managers once they were established Premier League sides.

Its about stability and not being a yo-yo club. If we can be hard to beat and yet hit teams on a fast transition id take that. Tippy happy possession football doesnt win games... strong, solid defences and ability to stick it in the opponents net, is

The managers who kept Brighton, Palace and Bournemouth up in their first seasons in the Prem were Chris Hughton, Tony Pulis and Gary O’Neil respectively

That's pretty much the style McKenna had been working towards during last season. The defence was notably tighter than two years before.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Yes our degrnce definitely better i agree, but our strikers much weaker. Id also say we are pretty slow in the middle ....

Going to be interesting to see how new man does. I just hope Town fans get behind him. If he can keep.us up , id say that's initial target...

Well he was caretaker and then got the job so they for sure thought he had enough about him to keep them but before they got their next guy in.

His first job is recruitment and building a team who are capable and well-drilled enough to win and draw matches in the Prem.

He was bournemouth coach for 18 months before caretaking.

Despite finishing 15th and therfore being seen as an ideal candidate for the town job

The underlying stats were terrible and why he got sacked as they knew theyd go down the following season with him

Goals conceded 18th
Shots conceded per match 20th
Set piece goals conceded 20th
Goals scored 16th
Exp points table 20th

What will be interesting to see is what version we will get

The bournemourh version of sit back and counter ( for this it helped that his keeper made over 100 saves and they scored many goals that were seen as difficult chances to score

Or the wolves version which was more proactive than reactive

They were a newly promoted side and they survived with him going from coach to full time boss. It’s really the end result that’s important.

Same as McKenna getting us promoted with 84 point this year, that wouldn’t usually be enough but we are back in the Premier League. Bournemouth never looked back either. I’m not really seeing this as a 5 year plan unless he exceeds all expectations.
