Not sure this has been touched on in other posts. But he’s been in charge at Strasbourg for 6 months and jumping ship because a better opportunity has arisen for him. Not a good trait, and although we want him to succeed his track record suggests if he does and a bigger club comes calling he will not hesitate to do the same again.

Works both ways though doesn't it. Bournemouth were quick enough to bin him off for Iraola.

And that's not something many people do in every day life? Any reason why a football manager should be different?

I don't get the impression that les Strasbourgoises will be rioting in protest at his departure.

No matter who we appoint, if they do well and another club from say the top 6 came knocking, they would go.

Just to get this straight.

If you were in a job for 6 months, and a higher profile employer came in for you, working in the biggest market in the world, and offered you a departmental budget of £180m plus and you were already upset with the ownership in your current job, ( https://www.independent.co.uk/

You’d say ‘No’?

Always a risk, but Ashton’s track record suggests there will be a compensation clause to offer some security.

Correct. But I accept the reality not much loyalty in life/football.

McKenna had opportunities to go to a ‘bigger’ club 2 years ago and he stayed. So there is still loyalty in football - just hard to find.

If he does enough with us that he gets his loyalty tested think that's probably fine.

If we are worried about a bigger opportunity coming up for him then it’s going to be a good problem for us to have.

I find that would be highly unlikely during year 1, probably time to get out of your head he will be at PR for 5 years.

We are about to be thrust into the modern football world of change, get used to it.

He will only getter a better opportunity if we’re doing well. So it’ll be a good thing and then the position will be even more attractive.

You do understand that the only way a ‘bigger’ fish were to come in for O’Neil would be that he’s hugely successful here!

Lucky then that no-one higher up the table than us will ever be silly enough to try and appoint him

Certainly lots of stick gathering going on around here. I've seen it all before over several decades, but I think it's the first time I've seen it before the guy has even been appointed. Talk about a tough crowd! Of which I'm not a member, I might add. I prefer to give people a chance before passing any sort of judgement.

His loyalty is not the main thing that worries me about this appointment.

I can’t see him appealing to a top 6 club at present. If a top 6 team did come in for him, it means he’d have done a very good job with us - which is obviously a good thing.

For that to happen means we stay up , so don’t worry.

If we're worried about him jumping ship.... its a good thing.and he must be doing a good job.
