Walton is in my opinion the most underrated member of the squad. |
I really like Walton, I mean, player of the year and yet, against Premier League set piece I do think he’d be less than ideal, he’s not a commanding keeper for crosses (in my non expert opinion)
Decent with feet (probably underrated there for sure) calm and does what any decent keeper does, communicates and makes saves from shots.
That margin is very fine at PL level though. |  | | |

It's a tough one. I agree with what I see week in, week out. But, we're data driven now so there must be something that comes up in the data that we don't always see.
Of course we could be barking up the wrong tree entirely and Palmer and Button could both be moving on, and its a case of Either/Or with Scherpen and Pope to provide competition for Walton. |  |

As someone who watches a lot of Belgian football and in particular Union SG, he’s really a superb young goalkeeper. Very towering presence, good at claiming from corners and a great shot stopper. We’d be doing very well to get him in.

I like Walts and I wouldn't be too concerned if we start the season with him. But I do think we/he needs a really good rival for the #1 position. Palmer is OK for Champ, but I don't think he's quite Prem standard |  |

If we were a team who had plenty of possession, then Walton would be preferential, his starting positions and save percentages are brilliant, but he's not great at claiming high balls in the box, and when we're quite likely to be under a fair bit of pressure this season, I think that's going to be a more important quality needed from our keeper.
That's a real strength of Pope, he's one of the best and that's with Dan Burn in front of him too!
I know he's not the sexy choice "we need young and upcoming, we need foreign" no, we need the right people.
Pope has experience at the very top level, that also has benefits which can be passed on to Walton I suspect, he's still youngish keeper wise.
Plus, he's a town fan, so you get a free 10% uptick in performance as it means more lol, the passion which we're missing a bit of since people like Harry Clarke and Wolfy aren't playing as much. | | | |
