He'd be considerably better I reckon.

I don't blame him for taking his time. Possibly the last big deal he'll get at his age, would be well advised to not jump at the 1st thing that comes his way and make his agent work for it by way of salary and contract length.

His problem was he didn't have the best season for Pompey, so he's looking at lower-Champ and upper League One.

Why rush? This could be his last big contract, so can't blame him holding out for offers.

Poll: Ipswich offer you 10k a week, Norwich offer you 20k. Who do you join?

You reckon he'll get a 'big deal'? I'm not so sure. After last season at Pompey, his home club where he really should have shone as a local hero, I can't see many high end championship clubs looking too seriously as yet. I reckon it will be lower champ, top Lg 1, which I'd have thought would be quite a step down in terms of contract (though doubtlee still more than I could ever dream of earning each year!)

Poll: Will you be watching the 3rd/4th place play off game?

Heavily linked to Leicester recently, don't know if that is progressing or not.

Guess it depends on your definition of big, I don't expect him to rock up at Anfield on £200k a week, but the difference between jumping at a £6k a week for 2 years at Plymouth vs. holding out to assess his options and maybe landing a £15k p/w contract at a Champ club is quite meaningful for a player potentially looking at their last chunky pay day.

Not the best of seasons last year, but he's proven to be prolific in L1, and he's posted double figures in the Champ for 2 of the 3 seasons prior to the Pompey one. Looked after himself and will come with a glowing character reference. There aren't many Championship clubs that wouldn't benefit from a Conor Chaplin in their squads IMO.

I think it will depend on where geographically too. Reading between the lines, I think he and his family are pretty keen to stay in Ipswich.

I'd imagine he could easily get £15k a week on a 3 year deal and a healthy signing on fee as one of the main men at an ambitious L1 club. Think he's been linked with both Leicester and Sheff Wed. Both would make sense.

Leicester would be a good move, big club & top facilities, depends whether they can sort their shit out though. Decent upside potential if he can help get them promoted and find himself back on 20 bags in the Championship.

From their perspective if they can sign someone proven at that level, with the attitude and application Chaplin has I can see the appeal. They really need to rip it up and start again there IMO, and the right characters will be as important as good players. I dread to think what their wage bill is but I think they could chop it by 60% and still have a better team if they play their cards right. Winks was rumoured to be on £90k a week, Skipp £50k, Vestergaard probably somewhere between the 2. They've got a few who wont be cheap to move on.

Why would you spend £100k on wages you don’t need to.

He always does his own pre pre season in the Algarve, he looks in fantastic shape. Very sharp.

He’ll have lots of offers, will join up with someone in a week or two.

I’m sure a couple of weeks with no income won’t impact him the same way it would others.
