| Anan Khalaili 17:52 - Jul 9 with 4390 views | Litfc00 | Looks like we showed interest in Anan Khalaili (Has now signed for Inter Milan) Khalaili is an attacking right sided wingback, wonder if this means we’re moving to a 3-4-3 system. | | | | |

I can't quite figure it out Joe. Did he turn us down or was our offer (I assume no sell ons) not accepted?

Sounds like it was a medical test on his heart/cardiac function that he didn't pass? They are very strict on this in Italy so may not necessarily be something that bothers us but it would be a club record fee, so it may well do! [Post edited 13 Jul 13:33]

Yep, that's exactly what he failed on. Unsure whether we adopt a similar stance to Serie A clubs.

See that's the bit I can't figure out. If that was the case, how come we never had a 'bid accepted' story, or even a rumour? If it wasn't for his dad and his loose lips, we might never have known about it.

Because you don't always hear when we have bids accepted. There's no point reporting an accepted bid if the player isn't receptive to the bid, is there?

Am I getting confused or are you? I'm not talking about the Club reporting it. There wasn't a bean, on here, in The EADT, Sky Sports, The Guardian, The Telegraph, not even FLW or FI. Not ever that he was under consideration, never mind a bid submitted. I find that really odd.

Presumably the fee would be greatly reduced were we, or others, to still be interested despite the medical findings. With Serie A clubs ruled out, and it would seem that Inter & Napoli were the main contenders for his signature, any bidding war would be more sedate, and that's before taking the new risk element into the asset value.

It's definitely you. I know you weren't talking about the club reporting it. Christ, if the press reported every time a club had an offer accepted on a player you'd need a 24/7 TV channel just to handle them. We're also going about our business a lot quieter these days, simply because we're fishing in a very competitive pond.

I think it probably happens for more than might be expected. I reckon we only hear a fraction of the deals that get quite a long way down the line and then don't materialise for one reason or another.

OK. So, if that's the case then, that we made a bid, it was accepted, but we never got to the point of talks as he chose Inter, as you said, understandably so. Do you think this is one we go back for, or is he cooked because he turned us down?

You would think the club have to think very carefully on medical grounds if this is a risk worth taking given the large investment. How much does his condition impact any future sale. If Italy are this strict now how soon other European countries? Priority is of course to player welfare and if he cant get a licence in Italy is he at risk on the football field anywhere that he should be advised about not playing?

Could be a similar situation as why Christian Eriksen was not permitted to play in Serie A after he had an ICD implanted.

There are some quotes from the Inter Milan president that suggest the club were happy with Khalaili’s medical but CONI vetoed the signing. We don’t know the exact results of the medical but Antonee Robinson saw a move to AC Milan fall through a few years ago due to an irregular heartbeat, yet he plays every week in the prem and is known for his pace and how much distance he covers! It sounds like the move failed due to the rules of CONI, rather than Inter Milan cancelling the deal on medical grounds. https://www.skysports.com/foot

Only a small fraction of bids, interest, talks, stuff like that ever make it into the media – that should be well understood by now! We have definitely been very interested in this player but so have numerous others. [Post edited 13 Jul 16:36]
