Arginetina fans should have celebrated Gordon’s opener, gave them the game state they needed to win after being contained.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

When you sit back and defend for so long and you have someone with the quality of Messi he’s got the tools to unlock the door. We invited pressure after our goal, due to our approach and tactics. We were managing Argentina well up to Gordan’s goal, so why change the approach and be so defensive?! Completely handed them all the ascendancy on a plate.

Indeed, we couldn’t get on the ball - let’s take off Rice and have a non existent midfield.

I don’t know if it was tactical or we gassed out, but the aggressive press disappeared and we simply tried (and failed) to contain them. Tuchel’s response when questioned seemed kind of arrogant.

Perfect for Messi. He's 38. He doesn't want to run around.

Pretty much all of us could see it wasn't going well. 4 or 5 good chances before they equalised. Didn't it occur to Tuchel that he had to change tactics back and play less deep? Or was it his ego that couldn't allow a backtrack? Two more defensive substitutions in the 82nd min before they equalised in the 84th. Not a good tactical look.

Still don't get it. There are some sides who are defensively strong and are built for defending a lead, but we're more offensively strong. We can afford to leave Cole Palmer and Foden at home. We've got world class players in Bellingham and Kane on 6 goals.. So why did we rely on handing over the initiative and trying to defend a slender lead against world class opposition who were getting closer minute after minute?

Another latter tournament game where Kane failed to have any impact as captain or tallisman. But yes agree it was so predictable what would happen. A real shame we didn't have a fit Saka as think he could have been our difference maker.

Kane's likely England's best ever player and I don't want to be too critical but he can't help get us over the line. At 1-0 he had a chance to make something happen or shoot and lost the ball in the blink of an eye. At the top level those moments are crucial. What is it now 4 semi's and two finals and nothing to show in recent years?

Oddly not as gutted this time around I guess this was largely due to the fact you could see what was going to happen and it did plus I didn't think we'd beat Spain anyway.

Think that's my 10th world cup now and still waiting to see us get to a final let alone win.

Sadly I fear that last 30 mins is likely what we will witness at PR next season if we can manage to get ourselves 1 up!

Still fuming this morning. I cannot remember ever seeing a game of football where the manager is so obviously and singularly to blame for the loss. This was way worse than anything under Southgate. Reports are that the FA will stick with Tuchel, which suggests either they are morons or can't afford to get rid.

I said Tuchel was no tactical genius. The only way of winning that game was keeping the ball away from them . Breaking the game up at every opportunity, and winding them up. What we did was suicidal.

They'll stick with him, unless he gets cold feet, doesn't like the criticism and does a runner.

He's a good coach, but think his ego got in the way. I think some coaches are more in it for themselves. To prove they're top dog. Winning 1-0 might seem a lot better than a ding dong 3-2 for a coach. Up there with Mourinho.
I think Kane and Bellingham got us this far, rather than Tuchel. Why not just go with the flow rather than try and prove you're a coaching genius. It backfired. I could not believe how easily it was to offer a team like Argentina a golden opportunity whilst we chose to dig our own graves and try and cling on. It was unbelievably bad tactics.

He’s a terrible coach on that evidence.

I bet the Argies couldn’t believe their eyes and were rubbing their hands with glee the way we played the last 30mins+. Why England didn't go for the 2nd goal and kill the game off I just don’t know?!

Kane has played the 3rd highest number of minutes at this World Cup behind 2 X GK and nearly 30 mins more than the next outfield player. We just don’t seem to have the ability or balls to manage time in his legs - even when he is spent and not influencing or changing the game.

Not being able to rotate some of our best (and/or half injured) players is a problem for every England team at every tournament that I can remember.

This emphasises it even more. Translation is “ England's number of accurate passes against Argentina in the 18 minutes and 37 seconds between 66:05 - 84.42 was just 2. Both of those accurate passes were between goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and center-back John Stones passing to each other in the same position.“

And look how Argentina played with a 1 goal lead. They were aggressive, they press our back line they had an out ball. Was night and day.

They had the chance, Rogers had the opportunity to play the ball to Kane, but dithered then chose to shoot.

After that couldn't get the ball.

The defending at the corner they scored from was the worst, they didn't react to the routine Messi kept doing all match, a player should have closed him down as soon as he played the corner.

Then inexplicably all of England's players were deep inside the box when Fernandez gets the ball, he had a free shot at goal.

Messi did the same in the last 2games drifts to the right side - standing In space and still runs the game!

His crosses are pin point

What a player- if Spence had stayed down on the tackle with Messi - it would have delayed the inevitable!

Spurs getting rid of Spence??
