Our club more than any other has benefited from US institutional ownership.

I’m not sure we have a leg to stand on.

If I was Chelsea or United I would be far more pssed off with life - which indeed they are.

Unless over the next 30 years we turn into a European powerhouse i dont see that it will affect us much. Jack and Diane are unlikely to comen over to take in a town game.

We can however show our solidarity with other fans

It is yes and that’s been obvious for many years now.

My point is, nobody was complaining over the last 5 years here.

Feels silly to turnaround now up in arms and say - well we like all the on field success but we don’t want the other parts…as you said, the direction of travel is clear and should have been blindingly obvious for a few years now.

What you appear to want is to have your cake and eat it.

The phrase 'Be careful who you sh1t on, on the way up, as you'll never know who you need on the way back down again' springs to mind.

The problem with marketing your club to the day trippers is they will get bored eventually and move onto something else, as they don't have that affinity, you're then left with a half empty ground and disgruntled local customers.

What I want if for ordinary fans to be able to watch Ipswich - for it to be affordable and accessible.

What I want is for the club to be putting as much effort into improving the atmosphere as they do in providing hospitality offers.

What I want is for the club to recognise that it was ordinary fans who stuck by the club for decades and it is those fans who they should be focusing on - rather than adopting a tourist model that cuts them off.

What I see is the a club who are eyeing up the financial gains that come with Premier League football and looking to exploit those first and foremost.

Without the fans a club is nothing. Moving towards a club see match day as a corporate w@nkfest for wealthy visitors on par with a visit to Wimbledon or Lords isn't for me.

Agree not as much demand for premium seating but...

Last time we were in the Premier League 3% of our capacity was premium seating, the average across the league that year was 10%, that is a lot of all important revenue we are missing. If we are 'lucky' enough to establish ourselves in the top tier, the club will want a higher % of premium seats and less 'general admission'
.
All we can do is stick together and hold the club to account, we will still have a great collective power but not sure we have a mechanism to use it.

A case in point. Spurs had a huge number of South Korean fans travel and watch with Son playing for them.....not quite so many do that now.

I wouldn’t be too concerned that’s what’s coming down the pike at ITFC.

As I posted on a separate thread, the far bigger risk, and indeed inevitability in my opinion, is that over half the EPL clubs now have US owners and there are now only three teams with English ownership.

We are heading for an Americanisation of English football whether we like it or not.

That’s why EFL clubs keep getting bought by US capital too, they want to try and get into the EPL because they can see the direction of travel and the even greater riches that will be on offer.

You're spot on.

The exec boxes and lounges are great for the bottom line but completely inaccessible to ordinary fans at the prices offered.

And Ipswich isn't in London so will never be able to exploit midweek facilities like other clubs do.

If we have 21k ST holders and 3k away fans - then if you reserve 2k+ (Not sure of the exact numbers) for hospitality/lounges then you are intentionally creating scarcity of tickets - to exploit those non ST holders wanting to see matches.

Exploiting fans is absolutely what the tourist model is about...

And how on earth are the next generation going to get a look in / get hooked as we did? Dad want's to take his 2 boys - "that will be £750 in the lounge please".

Er, not. The World Cup showed us how fans were exploited on ticket prices, how fans were exploited on travel, how scarcity was used to push up ticket prices, how shows detract from the game, how ad breaks became part of the game etc.

As a fan base we either nod away or we make clear our objection to the Americanisation of the game.

One point here - is that change is always by small steps.

Look at how Sky now influence kickoffs. It is always small incremental steps and then you get to a stage where the game becomes unrecognisable.

Maybe it's inevitable - or maybe fans could try and do something (The point of the thread - any ideas anyone?)

I don't disagree with those aspirations but how do you decide who meets your criteria of what an ordinary fan is?

You can look at things like ticket purchases, etc over a long period of time but there are plenty of genuine fans who for personal reasons couldn't attend for long periods.

With the 'official overseas fan club' scheme it looks like the club are trying to differentiate between genuine overseas clubs and day trippers with no attachment to the club at all.

I think the clubs response to the financial perspective might be that every year that they've been here they've lost lots of money. There is a really fine balance between just fleecing people and trying to generate enough revenue to be competitive.

Okidoki!

FWIW - I think we agree on everything.

My point is simply, there is now a concentration of power in the hands of people who don't want the game run in the same way you or I might want. That is the flip side of the influx of capital we've been lucky enough to receive over the last 5 years.

In terms of fan power - you are dealing with people who, if they don't like the way things are going, will pick the team up and simply move city...I'm not sure they give two fcks ultimately about what you or I might think!

In terms of our own owners though, I look at United, Chelsea and others and do think we are incredibly fortunate. They have done a huge amount, not just on the pitch but in terms of community outreach and wider engagement with the county. None of that stuff necessarily has an immediate pay back for them but will be paying dividends long after they've gone. The complete opposite in terms of the Glazers for example.

My season ticket is very affordable thank you. And tremendous value. As was my daughters £40 in her first year for the whole season. And now £600 for the two of us next season.

Which loyal supporters are you talking about? The ones who didnt buy any of the thousands of season tickets for the final Leavue 1 season? Or the ones who didnt buy the half season tickets in tbe same season. Or the ones who didnt buy in that close seaskn when there was still availability?

The atmosphere for big games is phenomenal. The club faciliate the coach
welcome. The flags and everything else for QPR led to a once in a lifetime atmosphere. The derbies, the end of season games are memories with my daughter that she will have long after I am gone.

Life is more than a zero sum game. If over the course of a season 2,000 people are willing to spend £500 a ticket in hospitality, thats an extra £1m to help get a signing in. Love it. That means I will see better playera on the pitch. Brilliant.

So, if the club want to have mascots and a kick about inflatable on the practice pitxh - no wahalla. I wont buy a, to me overpriced beer, in the stadium for the same reason I wont in the Greyhound. But as it turns out lots of people do. Good, every little helps.

I hope you feel better for your rant. But what a load of tosh.

I wouldnt mind a lifetime discount for my "investment" in the club all those years ago....

But then again, I thunk the currwnt approach of the club is perfectly reasonable.

Agreed. I can’t stand the phrase ‘match day experience’. The only match day experience I want is for the club to put on a match. A half decent pint served quickly at half time would be a bonus, and a natter with people you may not have caught up with for a while, but everything else can get in the bin.

As others have said though, if they only cater to what older fans want you'll lose the younger generation. Which is what has happened.

Fack all, except something along the lines of the final scene (in the film adaptation) of Fight Club. You can't stop the wheel man.

Protests and voting with our feet will do nowt cos there will always be other people prepared to pay for whatever is dished up. Even now and over last ten years plenty of fans like the Fanzone and half time 'entertainment'.

The Yanks (and more broadly bread heads) have got their hooks into cricket as well. Only a matter of time before cheerleaders are on the pitch between every fooking over. They are ruining sport, and are shameless about it because they don't give a hoot. Fack me, Gamechanger openly said at the time of the takeover they considered UK sport was very undervalued. So they buy in and turn it into something else.

Look at the World Cup organisers. Embarrassing and venal attention deficit dongers, rinsing the event for every last buck and showing once again they are an obstreperous adolescent nation, clueless about football, and run by halfwit bullies.
