Brilliant post.
Polanski's social media admin (if you think the leader of a modern political party has the time and skill to post on Instagram, you're a fool) has shared this without properly scanning all 20 images within it. Is that a mistake? Of course. Is it a big one? Honestly, not really. Collaborating on one Instagram post is a quick job.
ZP has owned the mistake, condemned the t-shirt... and we probably have two days of front page news about this, yet again distracting from anything remotely of importance in this country that's heading for a cliff edge.
Yes, the sad thing for me is that personal attacks play a disproportionate place in politics these days not least because they seem to be much more effective than arguing on policy.
You saw it with Miliband, Corbyn and Johnson, and these days you see it with Farage and Polanski. And there was even an element of that with Starmer after the election which led to the most innocuous of people ending up as the most hated person in the country.
Play the ball, not the man, is my philosophy. And it is why I always called her Mrs Thatcher, not the derogatory Thatcher.

Imagine it was Farage that had posted this about Polanski, I very much doubt you'd say the same regarding the leader not being the one that actually posted it.
Nevertheless, the T-shirt run was, I’m guessing, decades ago.
BDS posting not only that now, decades later, given the murder of three politicians in more recent years and the last only a few days ago; plus his praise for the photo that ZP was condemned for posting by all on this thread, is why I reported abuse.

It was wrong, but he also owned the mistake within hours.
Farage said he would take a rifle to anyone who blocked Brexit (about a year after Jo Cox was murdered) and Reform are still to sanction one of their councillors who said they would shoot a sitting Labour MP earlier this year
that's the difference, polanski apologises and retracts, farage very rarely apologises and often doubles down (as with the appalling historic anti-semitism and racism accusations)

Quite rattled by this response. I suppose you think Farage was the mastermind behind his Portman Road stunt? That he's sat there pouring over his Instagram every day?
Not a single political leader in this country has posted anything on their own social media for years. It's basically an extension of the press department.

Re your last para - do you always prefix your references to male politicians with’Mr.’ ?
I refer to all politicians by their last name only, for equality (albeit I sometimes also include their first names, or use only their initials for brevity).

I don't but I did it because "Thatcher" on its own seemed to me a term of abuse.
And I used to make it clear that I opposed her policies not her as a person.

Boo or something!
This isn’t a hard left site is it oh no Sir it isn’t ..

Plenty of “lefties” have said they don’t approve of that post, in response to a poster that is centre right.
So not sure how that makes this site a hard left site.
As a “rightie” surely you will be voicing your disapproval of the Reform councillor who wanted another politician shot, Nigel Farage for talking about taking up a rifle, Lucy Connelly for wanting to burn down migrants and politicians, and a poster on here that wanted to machine gun human beings seeking asylum.

It’s neutral, not abusive, and there are other ways of indicating you’re opposing policies rather than the person.
Each to their own, but I didn't sense that it was used neutrally by those opposed to her, and I used it to make it clear I had no hatred of her just objection to her policies.
Which is why I liked this song.

I don't see anything wrong with a bit of additional politeness, particularly to someone whose politics you don't appreciate. You could get offended about positive discrimination being unnecessary, but then the good intention is abundantly clear, and that should probably be the most important thing.
Good work by Philogene...... GREAT WORK BY PHILOGENE!!!

Oh, Zack does his own posting, I know he does. And that is why he keeps doing this. He is terminally online, and to the detriment of the party (of which I am a quiet member). He really, really has to engage his brain before just liking/reposting things, but I am not sure he has it in him.
He is great at many many things: Galvanising, storytelling, combating media norms and approaches. He is less good at other things: deep political strategy, opening up leadership to a wider range of voices, online posting.
Inside, there are many subgroups and working groups doing really good things across the party, the party is more than one person and will go on after Zack has gone. IMV he needs to now realise where his power is, and I would like that to be using his position to open up the media narrative to a wider range of voices in the party and prevent the media focusing just on him relentlessly - but i am not sure he can, because in part he really enjoys being the focus.

I know the greens are more than a one issue party, but it would be nice to hear them talking a bit more about traditional green issues.
Yep, have positions on the economy/foreign policy etc. but surely their focus should be all about the environment?

Well that's awkward.
As many have pointed out, it was wrong and more care needs to be taken but he acknowledged the mistake quickly and should learn from it.

I don't really understand this argument, tbh. It usually comes from right of centre media who want to "put the greens into their box" perhaps in order to more easily control them, or just to limit discourse.
The Anthropocene is not just an issue that sits under "green issues". It is deeply related to economy, societal structures, inequality, transport, energy, and even global geopolitics and military. Things do not segment in this way, especially when "green" is now all-encompassing.
Indeed, I would even argue it is impossible to discuss "green" issues without profoundly and meaningfully tackling all the other issues, as it is not a problem that can be solved in isolation.
