I think we will look back on the teams he played in and him incredibly fondly in years to come. May not have won the trophies of the best Ipswich teams but they really did get us out of the doldrums.
Think you could make a case for Burns, Morsy, Chaplin and Leif being on the cusp of legendary status. |
Think the case is already made for all of them to have that status tbh. They were central to a very rare, condensed period of greatness; and almost unrelenting excitement for us fans. |  |

To your second para, think Joe posted his squad list yesterday and said he was having issues whittling it down to 25.
So not sure we need replacements for all of them.
Two players in each position should suffice given we will be firmly concentrating on 38 leagues games only. |
I agree, hence about 4 would replace those 7 to trim the squad. Would leave us with NEW x 4 (hopefully 1 being Enciso), Fatawu, Maeda, Emersonn, Jack Clarke, Akpom, Egeli. 10 across those positions, with 9 counting towards the 25 is about right IMO. Plus 5 CMs, 8 defenders and 3 keepers gets us to 25.
Not suggesting we will necessarily do all of that business as getting all 7 of those out and 4 in feels a stretch in a short space of time, but if good deals were there to be done I think we would be open to it. The more likely scenario is 1 or 2 of those stick around post deadline day, 1 or 2 of Philogene, Mehmeti or McAteer, depending on what deals materialise, with only 2 or 3 in accordingly. I can't see a world where Ogbene, Burns, Hirst or AAH are in our squad. |  | | |

Same here, and this summer's starting to feel like more of a culture shock than 2024 was - better players coming in this time than that, and obviously survival the priority, but starting to worry a little whether there's going to be much left that's identifiably ITFC in terms of ethos. they might of been very good when we were in league 1 and championship promotion season, but when they played in prem league all were woeful.
wes couldnt beat his man, then got injured
morsey couldnt keep up
chappers looked lost
hence why they were played as little and almost fazed out in that season. wes and chappers exceptional league 1 players and good/steady championship players at the time |

I think this is likely Wes' decision coming to realise he won't get as many minutes as he thought. I think him signing that contract was out of love for the club - I see fans on twitter saying Town gave the contract in hope of getting a fee. The thing that's always impressed me most about Burns, aside from his directness on the ball is how good he is out of possession, he's positional and tactical discipline is quite remarkable and a big factor in why he was always favoured when fit in the big games.
That 2-0 win over Chelsea was a good example, Delap took the plaudits and rightly so but Wes Burns was absolutely phenomenal that night against world class opposition in Cucurella.
Ultimately there's a finite amount of squad places, Fatawu is top dog, Ogbene doesn't have a future, then I guess its an either / or between Wes and McAteer right now, with a 1 in 1 out thereafter. |
I can see why it makes the most sense on the balance sheet, and for the future, and why I didn't expect him to sign the new deal.
But eye (and heart!) test was why I wanted him to sign a new deal, and why I'd be happier to have seen McAteer go out than Burns to depart - ultimately if one of them needed to be an option for us in the PL next season I'd have had it be Wes every single time.
Gutted, is an understatement - but totally get it and not sure it is right decision even if I can make the case as to why it has happened |  |

they will always be up there as part of that era who got the club back. but unfortunately their ability couldnt match the prem league . its not being superior, gee . move on, as a club we have to move on.... also its to easy to call players legends these days. Just catching up with this after a busy day at work.

I thought the contract extension meant, another year with him helping around the peripheral. Followed by the proper goodbye he deserves at the end of the season.
If he just rides off in to the sunset like this, a little piece of my heart will fade away, never to return.
It'll be a sad end to such a happy era.
