I’m in Churchman upper. The last time I was in Churchman’s was the first leg of the UEFA Cup final in 1981. I’m usually in the West Stand.

Taking Glassers out of it, it is an excellent example of the challenges we face to reduce emissions. I’d hate to think what the carbon footprint of football is each week with teams flying short haul all over the place, fans’ travel, etc.

Yeah you're right and I'm not really criticising the action, more what preceded it.

To be honest if I weren't attending a wedding I'd probably be flying to Berlin to watch a friendly so I'm in no place to object.

I am a season ticket holder and engineering works on Greater Anglia excepted travel by train from Kent to all home games and away games.

Totting up my travel to home games last season it comes to over 4,000 miles, and I assume it will be much more for away games given few games in and around London and trips to places like Wrexham, Blackburn, Preston and Middlesbrough.

But it is impossible to be completely virtuous when it comes to the environment.

Your last line’s spot on. You can’t have no footprint and even if we do everything we can to cut our own footprint it will still be significantly higher than those in poorer nations who have very little and go nowhere. Total all that up and we are all part of the reason the UK has been one of the larger CO2 emitters.
