I have been involved in the most entertaining conversation this evening with my closest friends about sandwiches.
One half of the couple has been arguing for over an hour that a sandwich is defined by the number of cuts. To give perceptive the counter (correct) argument is that a sandwich is made of two slices of bread with a filling between. Cut in half it is 1 sandwich/2 halves (not 2 sandwiches) cuts into 4 then it is 1 sandwich/4 quarters (not 4 sandwiches).
This is light hearted but also something that they truly believe in and at the age of 52 should know different.
Come on peeps, please provide some thoughts/analogies to correct their thoughts |  | | |  |

I think it depends on the context.
If you're making and serving yourself, or someone else a sandwich, then the logic holds true - a sandwich is two slices of bread, cut into however many pieces you choose.
If you're catering for a party, or an afternoon tea, I would say that each individual piece of a 'personal' sandwich becomes its own sandwich. Ergo, one personal sandwich cut into four, becomes four party sandwiches. |  |

I think it depends on the context.
If you're making and serving yourself, or someone else a sandwich, then the logic holds true - a sandwich is two slices of bread, cut into however many pieces you choose.

Imho, if you’ve taken a bite prior to cutting it in two then you are a heathen.

....the working classes cut them straight in half, the middle class cut them diagonally and the upper class cut them into 4 triangles.

Much of it depends upon whether one feels secure in eating (saving the nicest portion until last), or consumed by fear that it will be snatched away (get the best bits safely in the mouth asap). | |
