Full respect to GC they saw what happened last time and although they spent big then this is crazy, for me it's still about 4th bottom but very hard not to get excited for the season ahead. [Post edited 18 Aug 8:47]

Think we are going to see a couple more incomings at the back, maybe one, possibly two.
I definitely think we've got ambitions of finishing significantly higher than 17th if the wheels don't fall off like last time (and we've shown thus far that we've learned from our mistakes going into the season), and I certainly think that's achievable, especially with rivals handicapped by Europe etc. | | | |

I don't think moving players on is particularly difficult. The question as you say is good prices / terms. If we could get £10m+ combined for Hirst & Taylor + add ons, and the same for Ogbene, Al-Hamadi, Humphreys & Palmer, which doesn't feel unreasonable, that would probably be in the region of £15m profit in terms of spending rules. Covers £75m of additions on 5 year deals, for this season at least.
Its a lot of work to do, I don't have any doubt we'll find suitors and there are probably some deals sat ready to go should we want to. There's a big difference between getting a nice £6m+ fee for Hirst vs. a season long loan though. |  | | |

We need another left footed (ideally) centre back, and that's with Kipre staying. We could also do with another left back, although Quattaro & Ben Johnson, if he stays, could certainly do a job there, as could Greaves, if moved across.
I'm not mad about playing versatile players in positions that are not their 'natural' spot, particularly in defence, longterm. For that reason, I'd prefer to keep Dara O'Shea as a centre back, rather than slotting him in as a RB. If we are spending £200m this summer, it would seem odd if we end up with our captain playing 'out of position', despite his undoubted PL quality & ability to do a job there. Would he actually even be better than Darnell Furlong in that role?
I know we are going to be a very adaptable team this season, with different line ups & formations depending on the opposition & if we are home & away, but for me, especially with a new keeper who has to settle in as a PL player, a back 3 of O'Shea, Diop & Greaves, with 2 attacking wing backs of Quattaro/Furlong/Davis/Johnson, would be our strongest defence going into the early league games, at least.
Looks like 4-2-3-1 is going to be the preference though. | |
