Lied about the visit, allowed Farage to mock KM and then issued a half-assed apology. Ashton is 92/100 rating on football matters. He’s been brilliant for moving the club forward. |
Totally agree with this, he has been top notch on football matters and happy to leave the topic in the past at this point but if I see one more post saying it was just a mistake and poor little Mark was played and deceived by the big mean politician I'll lose my mind. Some people are so naive. [Post edited 20 Aug 7:36]

Exactly this. And those proclaiming about people not able to let it go, this thread wasn't started by the dissenters! Its history now, we can't change it, and the club has moved on, but it will always leave a nasty taste in the mouth.

Has anyone said he is the antichrist? Your argument doesn’t make any sense. Why would anyone who is sensible enough to be against Reform be applauding that song etc? The fact is Ashton lied, he lied and doubled down and has a habit of talking gallons of sh1te. He also lied to those defending him there, which says a lot about your point around hypocrisy. McKenna was the most important cog for many people, but now he’s gone it’s seeing things shift. A good example is the training ground, it was his vision and design until he left now we are hearing about Ashton a non-footballing bloke sketching stuff out. It’s this weird sort of creep of the narrative and his ego which gets him pelters. Saying it’s either/or or things are entirely down to him except when they’re not, is exactly the sort of reason people on this thread and every other one defending the lies look stupid. Falling over each other to be the most loyal and white knighting the bloke is odd behaviour. The way the building works have run over etc have been a sort of joke on here, but is a good example of the reality not quite lining up with the narrative. The fact some people talk about the club when they Ashton is properly weird.

| Ashton on 23:45 - Aug 19 by CopfordBlue | If this was another thread started by someone attacking or criticising Ashton I’d be inclined to agree with you. It wasn’t though. The OP was saying how great he is and what a wonderful job he’s doing. The responses to it aren’t “banging on”, they’re just disagreeing with the statement that he’s an incredible CEO. The club read this board. Me and many others don’t want them to think that what he did earlier this year is forgotten and some stadium upgrades and spending money on players make it all ok. A sizeable minority (and I believe it is a minority) will never want him as our CEO and look forward to the day he goes. I’m the meantime most will stay quiet, give him credit where it’s due but will not be bought by him overseeing the financing by others of our club. He talks as if the money is coming out of his own pocket. It isn’t. He does very well financially out of our club . [Post edited 19 Aug 23:46]

I read the op the other way. “It can’t be argued he’s an incredible ceo” to me means it’s not possible to make the case that he is an incredible ceo. But now you mention it, it could be either and a case of ‘Grammar is the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit’. Irrespective, yes I agree this wasn’t a case of banging on. I very much agree that the response to the Farage incident was worse than the incident itself. Denials, lies and attempted coverups can’t be dismissed as a mistake whereas misjudging inviting Farage and his team to PR for a promo opportunity possibly can.

Yes! But the fact remains that he blatantly lied to the fans. That aside he's doing a great job as CEO. But that stain remains.

"or something" is what I said. They would be applauding that song because they are Two faced. As I said he made a bad mistake, but as I also said, there isn't a person on here who hasn't lied at some time, probably hundreds of times in their lives, total hypocrisy. I heard Ashton heap nothing but praise on KM while he was here, OTT at times, if Ashton had input into the training ground he had input, what's the big deal ? I don't think it is even a case of defending the lies, most say he made a bad mistake, what we are trying to do is keep Football to football and all the other rubbish away from it but some just can't wait to bring it up again and again, nobody knows what any of our players feel about politics etc but they'll all be supporting them big time Saturday, you could well be cheering for a racist., Hypocrisy.

Yeah, all of what you’re saying is supposition int he face of facts here, that’s why it’s a crap argument “or something” doesn’t change the thrust of what you said either. You’re also not highlighting “total hypocrisy” - there’s lying and there’s being caught lying in a professional context. That comes with consequences usually.

| Ashton on 06:43 - Aug 20 by Churchman | I actually do care who is invited to the football club. Not personally. He can invite Farage, Hitler, the Devil, Stalin and Vlad the Impaler for all I care. I don’t know him or them nor wish to. What I care about is any reputational damage to ITFC. It’s why I’d never allow any politician near my football club. I am actually surprised the owners have left the upper operating structure of the club as it is. With the rate of change they had the opportunity to tweak it. They clearly have enormous faith in who is doing what or maybe have internally quietly changed how things are done. Maybe losing a CEO and McKenna at the same time was considered too damaging. Who knows. Either way, it’s their money driving the club forward and given what they have done for it I’ll back them in their decision making for now. In my view, FBs opening post is correct. |
You mention the infamous Vlad the Impaler who is the great grandfather 16 times removed of... King Charles iii who still owns property in Transylvania.

The Guradian doesn't represent the majority of football fans. Its got its own political agenda... which extends to football. So it's not really part of us at all. In the similiar way and not trying to be disrespectful, the TWTD elite doesn't represent the majority of ITFC football fans. For example, the first game after the debacle and there was nowhere near the toxic backlash against Ashton as forecast. Most ITFC fans have moved on and think Ashton is doing a bl00dy good job ( for the moment).
| Ashton on 08:52 - Aug 20 with 723 views | baxterbasics | On balance he's been a successful chairman/CEO/whatever his title is for the club. Farage was a mis-judgement as was the way he handled the resulting fallout. But only a small number of the Farage-obsessed will see this is outweighing everything else. The noise around it has largely died down, the predicted mass-disruption and division didn't materialise, players seem to either have gotten over it or shrugged it off, we still aren't universally referred to as Reform-FC, thankfully. Not even close. So long as progress continues on the pitch, in the results, and we don't have any repeats of said episode, he's good. Appreciate a handful of you disagree and cannot forgive. | |

| Ashton on 00:39 - Aug 20 by CopfordBlue | It’s a fair question. I’ll admit i’ve never been keen on him. This will shock you but my issue with him isn’t really about Farage as such, it’s his lack of judgement and failure to see the storm followed by how poorly he dealt with the aftermath. |
But how would you of dealt with the aftermath exactly? Let's make you the CEO now, you have just had a huge PR disaster. You are in a hugely public position, your employers are watching your every move. Your customers have mixed views on the topic. What precisely (word by word please), are you going to write?

Maybe so Dubs but I still feel grubby over the whole unedifying spectacle. As I've said so many times on the dozens of threads about this, there is no doubt Ashton has been a key component of our rise from the mire of the Evans years, but the Farage debacle is unforgivable for me. I'm not an avid Aston out campaigner, but like others, I won't shed too many tears when he's gone. What jars me just as much is those trying to close down the debate as soon as it arises and tell me it's time to move etc. I'm quite capable of free thought and I'll decide when it's time to move on thank you. This last bit is a general comment and of course not aimed at you Dubs!

I haven't got the time or inclination to rise to your request for a word by word statement, but pretty much anything other than the mealy mouthed non apology we got would be a good starting place. Were you happy with what we got? No problem if you were. We're all individuals. I just expect a bit more if my CEO is tummy tickling a right wing agitator in the lead up to an election.
