| You think everyone should have to turn up an hour plus before it starts? on 08:49 - Aug 24 by Dyland | Who are you, Brett Johnson :) I'll turn up at ten to three as usual ta. Can't believe I'm the only one who likes a drink and lunch or whatever in the town before the game. Many of the people I see beforehand don't sit in the same stand. Fook this corporate fleecing and sanitisation of football. I still buy drinks at half time btw, so spend on the club beyond my ST. |
Also, the issue is the security, so slow and cumbersome and not enough staff. Went to Arsenal the other week and they have 2 different lanes, one for people with bags and one for people without, made it far easier to get in and didn't have queues. Checking everyone is madness, unless they change the way the security operates, this will be a theme all season. The irony of Saturday was that all this work was supposed to remove the bottleneck behind the Sir Bob, but I saw pictures of queues from Alderman Road grass back up to London Road. The whole thing needs a rethink.

Yep it hasn’t been worked out very well. No queue at all for upper north at 2.50, though dunno if that was because many arrived earlier than they usually would (I’d like to think that wasn’t the case)…

| Trying to get into the West Stand on 15:25 - Aug 23 by BloomBlue | Had an interesting conversation earlier today with someone who knows some of the people who work in the background at PR , he was told it was the police control room (whatever that is) who told the club they need to make some quick changes and open some extra entrances / gates yesterday as it was becoming dangerous. 1000s of people being funnelled into the West stand / fanzone with 100s trying to get out of the fanzone walking out of the same gates. We didn't have walls, but I'm told they made the point we've had disasters at football grounds before with funnelling in people in the same direction. He said that police demand was also the reason they opened up the hospitality section to let fans enter the West stand there. From a health and safety perspective not a good look for Ipswich |
This is such an important issue that it needs thoroughly checking by the press / supporters club. Those pointing the finger at fans for arriving late have jumped on an answer they are comfortable with when it appears to be a long way from reality as evidenced by countless fans stating they queued for long periods.

Indeed, the pictures I got sent about the queues were at 2pm.

| Trying to get into the West Stand on 22:33 - Aug 23 by mrfixit426 | It was a discount for opening day. |
In SAR it was £5 early bird price (ends at 2:15 I believe) and £6.75 after. (certainly at half-time)

If they are sticking with this approach to get into the West Stand this won’t get a lot better. Under the current approach 6000 or so fans, plus anyone who just wants the fan zone have just three entry points, that’s 2000 plus per entry point, then add on the fans exiting the fan zone slowing things down, using the same space, the chaos was and will be inevitable. That’s without another queue to get to your seat. As a basic, simple improvement there needs to be a completely separate exit, which avoids fans trying to enter plus more entry points. It seems bizarre that anyone thought a stand with 16 turnstiles, (which were obviously designed with the capacity of the stand in mind) would benefit from creating 3 funnels through which everyone must pass before they get to the turnstiles.

I’m also Upper North. Arrived at 2 given all the talk about arriving early. Walked straight in, but Ive never seen queues like it for the Co Op/ Fanzone and that was an hour before kick off, so people had clearly heeded the advice to arrive early
